Using his sermons to elucidate his treatises, Sarah Catherine Byers demonstrates how Augustine enriched Stoic cognitivism with Platonism to develop a fuller and coherent theory of action. That theory underlies his account of moral development, including his account of the mind's reception of grace. By analyzing Augustine's engagement with Cicero, Seneca, Plotinus, Ambrose, Jerome, Origen and Philo of Alexandria, Byers sheds new light on a major thinker of the early Christian world whose work is of critical importance for understanding key and recurring themes in Western philosophy.Perception, Sensibility, & Moral Motivation in Augustine189/.2PHI002000bisacshByers Sarah Catherine1972-478325UkCbUPUkCbUPBOOK9910962147503321Perception sensibility, and moral motivation in Augustine264726UNINA03777nam 22006611 450 991095373250332120251211121150.097815099053241509905324978150990531715099053169781509905300150990530810.5040/9781509905324(CKB)3710000000840898(EBL)4653874(PQKBManifestationID)16428264(PQKBWorkID)14978199(PQKB)20870962(MiAaPQ)EBC4653874(OCoLC)948670634(UtOrBLW)bpp09260251(MiAaPQ)EBC6161086(UtOrBLW)BP9781509905324BC(Perlego)859172(EXLCZ)99371000000084089820161216d2016 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrA comparative examination of multi-party actions the case of environmental mass harm /Joanne BlennerhassettOxford ;Portland, Oregon :Hart Publishing,2016.1 online resource (339 p.)Civil justice systems ;v. 4Description based upon print version of record.9781509905294 1509905294 Includes bibliographical references and index.Part I: Collective Redress, Mass Harm, Multi-party Actions and Environmental Mass Harm -- 1. Collective Redress for Mass Harm in IrelandThis monograph addresses the phenomenon of mass harm and how it may be resolved through collective redress. It examines particularly how such redress may be achieved through mechanisms such as multi-party actions (MPAs). In order to do this, an analytical framework is created against which to evaluate various multi-party procedures. This is illustrated through the experience of a selection of common law jurisdictions in dealing with mass harm - namely that of England and Wales, Canada, Australia and the United States, as well as that of EU collective redress. It examines multi-party action laws benchmarked against the objectives identified in the analytical framework. The phenomenon of environmental mass harm in particular is explored as a case study, as it illustrates some of the difficulties that may arise in mass harm litigation. Also, this work explores where the best solutions for mass harm redress may lie in the future - perhaps in collective actions or through alternatives such as regulation and alternative dispute resolution or a combination of these. Finally, the experience of mass harm litigation in Ireland is examined, as currently this jurisdiction does not have an effective mechanism for dealing with mass harmCivil justice systems ;Volume 4.Class actions (Civil procedure)Joinder of actionsLiability for environmental damagesClass actions (Civil procedure)Joinder of actions.Liability for environmental damages.344.04/6Blennerhassett Joanne1863125UtOrBLWUtOrBLWUkLoBPBOOK9910953732503321A comparative examination of multi-party actions4469587UNINA
