Like liberal nationalists, Ryan Pevnick argues that citizens have special claims to the institutions of their states. However, the source of these special claims is located in the citizenry's ownership of state institutions rather than in a shared national identity. Citizens contribute to the construction and maintenance of institutions (by paying taxes and obeying the law), and as a result they have special claims to these institutions and a limited right to exclude outsiders. Pevnick shows that the resulting view justifies a set of policies - including support for certain types of guest worker programs - which is distinct from those supported by either liberal nationalists or advocates of open borders. His book provides a framework for considering a number of connected topics including issues related to self-determination, the scope of distributive justice and the significance of shared national identity.Immigration & the Constraints of JusticeEmigration and immigrationGovernment policyDistributive justiceEmigration and immigrationGovernment policy.Distributive justice.325/.1Pevnick Ryan1980-853445UkCbUPUkCbUPBOOK9910459702403321Immigration and the constraints of justice1905640UNINA04226nam 22007455 450 991090400120332120250322110037.09781479858279147985827710.18574/9781479858279(CKB)3710000000203892(EBL)1747369(SSID)ssj0001289096(PQKBManifestationID)12414280(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001289096(PQKBWorkID)11314703(PQKB)10527410(StDuBDS)EDZ0001326128(MiAaPQ)EBC1747369(OCoLC)897416143(MdBmJHUP)muse37386(DE-B1597)547249(DE-B1597)9781479858279(ODN)ODN0001910930(EXLCZ)99371000000020389220200723h20142014 fg engur|n|---|||||txtccrImmigrant Faith Patterns of Immigrant Religion in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe /Phillip ConnorNew York, NY :New York University Press,[2014]©20141 online resource (176 p.)Description based upon print version of record.1-4798-5390-9 1-4798-8379-4 Includes bibliographical references and index.Frontmatter --Contents --Acknowledgments --Introduction. Weaving immigrant faith together --Methodological appendix --Notes --Bibliography --Index --About the authorImmigrant Faith examines trends and patterns relating to religion in the lives ofimmigrants. The volume moves beyond specific studies of particular faiths inparticular immigrant destinations to present the religious lives of immigrantsin the United States, Canada, and Europe on a broad scale. Religion is not merely one aspect among many in immigrant lives. Immigrant faith affects daily interactions, shapes the future of immigrants intheir destination society, and influences society beyond the immigrantsthemselves. In other words, to understand immigrants, one must understand theirfaith. Drawing on census data and other surveys, including data sources from several countries andstatistical data from thousands of immigrant interviews, the volume provides aconcise overview of immigrant religion. It sheds light on whether religionshapes the choice of destination for migrants, if immigrants are more or lessreligious after migrating, if religious immigrants have an easier adjustment,or if religious migrants tend to fare better or worse economically thannon-religious migrants.Immigrant Faith covers demographic trends from initial migration tosettlement to the transmission of faith to the second generation. It offers theperfect introduction to big picture patterns of immigrant religion for scholarsand students, as well as religious leaders and policy makers.SOCIAL SCIENCE / Anthropology / CulturalbisacshRELIGION / GeneralbisacshImmigrantsReligious lifeEurope, WesternImmigrantsReligious lifeCanadaImmigrantsReligious lifeUnited StatesEurope, WesternSocial conditions21st centuryCanadaSocial conditions21st centuryUnited StatesSocial conditions21st centuryCanadaEmigration and immigrationReligious aspectsUnited StatesEmigration and immigrationReligious aspectsSOCIAL SCIENCE / Anthropology / Cultural.RELIGION / General.ImmigrantsReligious lifeImmigrantsReligious lifeImmigrantsReligious life200.86912REL000000SOC002010bisacshConnor Phillip1976-authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1775044DE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910904001203321Immigrant Faith4288869UNINA01754nam 22005893 450 991013198200332120170816162349.088-207-4745-6(CKB)3400000000019133(ItFiC)it 02414711(SSID)ssj0001590642(PQKBManifestationID)16284550(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001590642(PQKBWorkID)14877633(PQKB)11370176(EXLCZ)99340000000001913320101102d2009 uy 0itatxtccrPensare in presenza conversazioni, luoghi, improvvisazioni /Chiara Zamboni1. ed. italiana.Napoli Liguori2009185 p. ;24 cmProfili Pensare in presenza Profili.Teorie & oggetti della filosofia ;66C.
