Brown.UBC Press is pleased to announce a new series in Asian religions. Pilgrims, Patrons, and Place, a Buddha Dharma Kyokai Foundation Book on Buddhism and Comparative Literature, is the first book in this series. Click here to see other titles in this series. The study of images in Asian religions has tended to emphasize the centrality of image worship in both Hinduism and Buddhism. Images in Asian Religions offers a challenge to any simple understanding of the role of images by looking at aspects of the reception of image worship that have only begun to be studied, including the many hesitations that Asian religious traditions expressed about image worship. Written by eminent scholars of anthropology, art history, and religion with interests in different regions (India, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia), this volume takes a fresh look at the many ways in which images were defined and received in Asian religions. Areas addressed include the complex, fluid, and contested nature of the religious image; the reception of images within the intellectual culture of Hinduism and Buddhism; and the importance of historical and cultural context in the study of religious images. This compelling collection, demonstrating the range of debate over practices of image worship, will expand our appreciation of the objects that serve, for many, as supports of divine presence. Of primary interest to scholars of Asian religions, it will also appeal to art historians, anthropologists, semioticians, and students of religion who concern themselves with images, icons, and material culture.Asian religions and society series.Idols and imagesAsiaWorshipIdoles et imagesAsieCulteAsiaReligionAsiaReligious life and customsAsieReligionAsieVie religieuseAsian religionsImagesIdols and imagesWorship.Idoles et imagesCulte.203/.095Granoff P. This guidebook will assist providers new to the field of psychiatry to better understand how to treat common psychiatric disorders. What follows is the accumulation of 30 years of experience paired with an eagerness to help those overwhelmed by the field of psychiatry, just as the authors once were. The book is broken down into chapters that each cover a different illness. Each chapter briefly describes the diagnostic criteria of the illness, usually using a mnemonic to help memorize the criteria, and includes other information that may prove useful to the novice clinician. Chapters cover risk factors for the illness and common screening scales used for each diagnosis. This leads into the first-line preferred treatment. Some chapters, such as Depression, will have an easy-to-follow algorithm that covers what to do if treatment fails. Second-line treatments and off-label usage are clearly outlined throughout the book. Each medication will have the recommended starting dose of the drug according to the package insert of the medication as well as common titration methods. Maximum recommended dosages are also outlined. Drug profiles will describe the most common side effects as well as FDA indications. Each category will continue with recommended monitoring for the drug and pearls from the authors. The Clinician's Guide to Common Psychiatric Disorders is a book intended for any provider that may prescribe psychiatric medications, whether it be a primary care physician, a physician’s assistant, or a nurse practitioner working in family medicine, or a resident just starting out in psychiatry.PsychiatryPrimary care (Medicine)PsychiatryPrimary Care MedicinePsychiatry.Primary care (Medicine)Psychiatry.Primary Care Medicine.616.89025Floyd Brooks1772210Kane TimothyMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910890191703321The Clinician’s Guide to Common Psychiatric Disorders4272687UNINA
