MelcherCambridge, Massachusetts :The M.I.T. Press,1981.1 online resource (635 p.)First published in 1981 by M.I.T. Press, Continuum Electromechanics, courtesy of M.I.T. Press and used with permission, provides a solid foundation in electromagnetics, particularly conversion of energy between electrical and mechanical forms. Topics include: electrodynamic laws, electromagnetic forces, electromechanical kinematics, charge migration, convection, relaxation, magnetic diffusion and induction interactions, laws and approximations of fluid mechanics, static equilibrium, electromechanical flows, thermal and molecular diffusion and streaming interactions. The applications covered include transducers, rotating machines, Van de Graaff machines, image processing, induction machines, levitation of liquid metals, shaping of interfaces in plastics and glass processing, orientation of ferrofluid seals, cryogenic fluids, liquid crystal displays, thunderstorm electrification, fusion machines, magnetic pumping of liquid metals, magnetohydrodynamic power generation, inductive and dielectric heating, electrophoretic particle motion, electrokinetic and electrocapillary interactions in biological systems and electron beams.SciencebisacshScienceScienceScience.Melcher James R26926ScCtBLLScCtBLLBOOK9910832986203321Continuum electromechanics333145UNINA03544nam 22006015 450 991067244970332120260401155209.03-031-25674-310.1007/978-3-031-25674-5(CKB)5860000000298417(DE-He213)978-3-031-25674-5(MiAaPQ)EBC7205359(Au-PeEL)EBL7205359(OCoLC)1371438107(PPN)268204837(EXLCZ)99586000000029841720230220d2023 u| 0engurnn#008mamaatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierLecture Notes on the Theory of Plates and Shells Classical and Modern Developments /by David J. Saint-Venant Problem for general cylindrical shells. This book presents the theory of plates and shells on the basis of the three-dimensional parent theory. The authors explore the thinness of the structure to represent the mechanics of the actual thin three-dimensional body under consideration by a more tractable two-dimensional theory associated with an interior surface. In this way, the relatively complex three-dimensional continuum mechanics of the thin body is replaced by a far more tractable two-dimensional theory. To ensure that the resulting model is predictive, it is necessary to compensate for this ‘dimension reduction’ by assigning additional kinematical and dynamical descriptors to the surface whose deformations are modelled by the simpler two-dimensional theory. The authors avoid the various ad hoc assumptions made in the historical development of the subject, most notably the classical Kirchhoff–Love hypothesis requiring that material lines initially normal to the shell surface remain so after deformation. Instead, such conditions, when appropriate, are here derived rather than postulated. .Solid Mechanics and Its Applications,2214-7764 ;274Mechanics, AppliedSolidsSolid MechanicsPlaques (Enginyeria)thubTeoria de les estructuresthubLlibres electrònicsthubMechanics, Applied.Solids.Solid Mechanics.Plaques (Enginyeria)Teoria de les estructures620.105Steigmann David J.authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1354162Bîrsan Mirceaauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autShirani Miladauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910672449703321Lecture Notes on the Theory of Plates and Shells3306059UNINA
