Independence vs. Dependence: Economics in the Postfeminist Cycle. In light of their tremendous gains in the political and professional sphere, and their ever expanding options, why do most contemporary American films aimed at women still focus almost exclusively on their pursuit of a heterosexual romantic relationship? American Postfeminist Cinema explores this question and is the first book to examine the symbiotic relationship between heterosexual romance and postfeminist culture. The book argues that since 1980, postfeminism's most salient tensions and anxieties have been reflected in the American romance film. Case studies of a broad range of Hollywood and independent films reveal how the postfeminist romance cycle is intertwined with contemporary women's ambivalence and broader cultural anxieties about women's changing social and political status. Key Features: Offers a new perspective on both popular American romance films and postfeminist cultural criticism by examining the symbiotic relationship between romance and postfeminism. Analyses the recurring narrative and discursive patterns of postfeminist cinema. Includes 13 case studies of popular postfeminist films and other media texts, including television programmes. Continues the tradition of feminist analysis of romance as a significant media genre for women.Traditions in American cinema.Man-woman relationships in motion picturesFeminism and motion picturesUSAgndMan-woman relationships in motion pictures.Feminism and motion pictures.791.436522AP 53925rvkSchreiber Michele1679179UkCbUPUkCbUPBOOK9910827994003321American postfeminist cinema4047230UNINA03263oam 2200493I 450 991096177120332120190826145055.09789004365216900436521410.1163/9789004365216(CKB)4100000003616839(MiAaPQ)EBC5449715(OCoLC)1043913614(OCoLC)1044821307(nllekb)BRILL9789004365216(EXLCZ)99410000000361683920180712d2018 uy 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierThe foundations of Arabic linguistics III the development of a tradition: continuity and change /edited by Georgine Ayoub, Kees Versteegh1st ed.Leiden :Brill.c2018.1 online resource (x, 284 pages)Studies in Semitic Languages and Linguistics ;949789004363465 9004363467 Includes bibliographical references and index.Front Matter -- Copyright Page -- List of Contributors -- Introduction /Georgine Ayoub and Kees Versteegh -- Case and Reference /Georgine Ayoub -- The Grammatical and Lexicographical Traditions /Ramzi Baalbaki -- A Twelfth Century League Table of Arab Grammarians /Michael G. After Sībawayhi, considerable changes in the linguistic situation took place. The language of the Arab Bedouin described by him died as a native language. Grammars also changed, even if grammarians used for the most part the data given by Sībawayhi. This volume aims to determine continuities and changes in Arabic grammars, providing a new perspective on the impact of cultural and historical developments and on the founding principles of Sībawayhi's Kitāb .Studies in Semitic Languages and Linguistics94.Arabic languageGrammarHistoryArabic languageGrammarHistory.492.7/5Ayoub Georgine1786787Versteegh C.
