Based on thirty life history interviews, the author attempts to map the complex relations between lesbian subjectivities and spatialities as they emerge, develop, interact and negotiate with each other in their everyday lives. Drawing upon theories on cultural studies, feminism, postcolonialism, urban sociology and queer theory, this book positions Hong Kong as a late capitalist city and neoliberal economy, to bring the notion of sexuality and spaces together in a theoretical exercise in order to focus on the forces that determine the conditions and possibilities for the materialization of lesbian and transgender lesbian desires and identities. Tang investigates social relations within certain spaces and make linkages between a living room, a busy street, a classroom, a church congregation, a workplace and a queer film festival. Hong Kong women with lesbian desires and transgender lesbians can be understood as exclusionary to some spaces but participatory in the constant development of new sites where their needs and intimate desires are met. Tang concludes that a preliminary analysis of spaces in Hong Kong can be rooted in a physical sense but also proposes conditional spatiality as a theoretical concept to understand the emergence and disappearance of spaces.Queer Asia.LesbiansChinaHong KongSocial conditionsLesbiansSocial networksChinaHong KongLesbiansHomes and hauntsChinaHong KongLesbianismChinaHong KongLesbiansSocial conditions.LesbiansSocial networksLesbiansHomes and hauntsLesbianism305.489664Tang Denise Tse-Shang1510776MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910781533103321Conditional spaces3743628UNINA03772nam 2200613 450 991082776360332120230120013140.01-78063-270-3(CKB)3450000000003816(EBL)1575062(OCoLC)865332907(SSID)ssj0000747270(PQKBManifestationID)11445014(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000747270(PQKBWorkID)10703609(PQKB)10293994(MiAaPQ)EBC1575062(CaSebORM)9781843346302(Au-PeEL)EBL1575062(CaPaEBR)ebr10815595(CaONFJC)MIL549020(EXLCZ)99345000000000381620110905d2011 uy| 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrAcademic branch libraries in changing times /Nevenka Zdravkovska1st editionOxford :Chandos Publishing,2011.1 online resource (231 p.)Chandos information professional seriesDescription based upon print version of record.1-84334-630-3 Includes bibliographical references (pages 189-204) and index.Cover; Academic Branch Libraries in Changing Times; Copyright; Contents; List of figures; List of tables; Acknowledgements; About the author; Preface; Book organization; 1 Historical overview of academic branch libraries; The beginnings; The state of academic research branch libraries; Evolution of branch libraries at the University of Maryland; References; 2 Types of branch libraries; Definitions; Discipline specific branch libraries; Undergraduate library; Departmental libraries; References; 3 Most common subject branch libraries; Music libraries as special collectionsThe case of the chemistry librariesThe many faces of science and engineering libraries; References; 4 Assessment/review of viability of branch libraries; Published guidelines; Examples of assessment studies; Examples of consolidating/closing branches; Adding new branches; References; 5 Future of academic branch libraries; Publications of note; Twenty-first century creations; Examples of changes; Priddy Library at The Universities at Shady Grove (Author: Irene Munster); Conclusion; References; Appendix A National Center for Education StatisticsAppendix B ARL Academic US Member Libraries/Branch Listing Websites (August 16, 2010)A; B; C; D; E; F; G; H; I; J; K; L; M; N; O; P; R; S; T; U; V; W; Y; Appendix C Engineering Branch Library Example; Engineering and Physical Sciences (University of Maryland); Selected bibliography; IndexAre academic branch libraries going to be extinct in the near future?
