Steps toward the digitization of politics --Notes --References --Index.The objective of this book is to outline how a radically democratic politics can be reinvigorated in theory and practice through the use of the internet. The author argues that politics in its proper sense can be distinguished from anti-politics by analyzing the configuration of public space, subjectivity, participation, and conflict. Each of these terrains can be configured in a more or less political manner, though the contemporary status quo heavily skews them towards anti-political configuration. Using this understanding of what exactly politics entails, this book considers how the internet can both help and hinder efforts to move each area in a more political direction. By explicitly interpreting contemporary theories of the political in terms of the internet, this analysis avoids the twin traps of both technological determinism and technological cynicism. Raising awareness of what the word ‘politics’ means, the author develops theoretical work by Arendt, Rancière, Žižek and Mouffe to present a clear and coherent view of how in theory, politics can be digitized and alternatively how the internet can be deployed in the service of truly democratic politics.CDSMS (Series)Information technologyPolitical aspectsInformation societyPolitical aspectsInternet in political campaignsDigital mediaPolitical aspectsPolitical participationInformation technologyPolitical aspects.Information societyPolitical aspects.Internet in political campaigns.Digital mediaPolitical aspects.Political participation.320.02854678Smith Trevor Garrison992271UkMaJRUBOOK9910219863003321Politicizing digital space2272063UNINA03645nam 2200625 450 991013749420332120230807211326.01-118-32348-31-118-32343-21-118-32347-5(CKB)3710000000576488(EBL)4335873(SSID)ssj0001600635(PQKBManifestationID)16308341(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001600635(PQKBWorkID)12768031(PQKB)10750742(PQKBManifestationID)14279825(PQKBWorkID)13976937(PQKB)21680891(MiAaPQ)EBC4335873(DLC) 2015010035(Au-PeEL)EBL4335873(CaPaEBR)ebr11140622(CaONFJC)MIL888568(OCoLC)935920174(EXLCZ)99371000000057648820160122h20152015 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrClinical trials in older people /edited by Antonio Cherubini [and five others] ; contributors Heather Allore [and thirty five others]Chichester, England :Wiley Blackwell,2015.©20151 online resource (308 p.)Description based upon print version of record.1-118-32349-1 Includes bibliographical references at the end of each chapters and index. The exclusion of older subjects from clinical trials : the predict study / Antonio Cherubini, Peter Crome -- Clinical trials in older adults : a point of view from the industry / Susanna Del Signore, Philippe Guillet -- Ethical issues in clinical trials involving older subjects : the right to participate in clinical trials and have access to care; the protection of vulnerable subjects and the issue of informed consent / Emmanuel Hirsch, Paul-Loup Weil-Dubuc -- Mastering the design of clinical trials for older persons : the tension between external validity and feasibility / Luigi Ferrucci, Stephanie Studenski -- Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies in older adults / Arduino A Mangoni, Paul AF Jansen, Stephen H.D. Most such metapopulations occur naturally, like clusters of amphibians in vernal ponds or baboon troops spread across the African veldt. Others have been created as human activities fragment natural landscapes, as in stands of trees separated by roads. As landscape change has accelerated, understanding how these metapopulations function-and specifically how they adapt-has become crucial to ecology and to our very understanding of evolution itself. With Adaptation in Metapopulations, Michael J. Wade explores a key component of this new understanding of evolution: interaction. Synthesizing decades of work in the lab and in the field in a book both empirically grounded and underpinned by a strong conceptual framework, Wade looks at the role of interaction across scales from gene selection to selection at the level of individuals, kin, and groups. In so doing, he integrates molecular and organismal biology to reveal the true complexities of evolutionary dynamics from genes to metapopulations.Interspecific InteractionsAdaptation (Biology)Population biologyEcologybiology, biological, science, scientific, adaptation, evolution, evolutionary, change, adapting, organisms, populations, functions, ecology, ecological, interaction, gene selection, genetics, molecular, group selections, experimental studies, sociality, heredity, hereditary, nature, balance theory, physical environment, community, ecosystems.Adaptation (Biology)Population biology.Ecology.578.4Wade Michael John1949-authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1358625DE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910838255803321Adaptation in Metapopulations4144944UNINA03111nam 2200589Ia 450 991082351530332120240417035259.00-7914-8141-71-4237-9532-6(CKB)1000000000464981(OCoLC)70887904(CaPaEBR)ebrary10579288(SSID)ssj0000182061(PQKBManifestationID)11938980(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000182061(PQKBWorkID)10187557(PQKB)11173464(MiAaPQ)EBC3407865(MdBmJHUP)muse6436(Au-PeEL)EBL3407865(CaPaEBR)ebr10579288(DE-B1597)683689(DE-B1597)9780791481417(EXLCZ)99100000000046498120050817d2006 ub 0engurcn|||||||||txtccrInterstate disputes[electronic resource] the Supreme Court's original jurisdiction /Joseph F. In this book, Joseph F. Zimmerman examines the role of the Supreme Court in settling disputes between states, the criteria developed by the Court to determine whether its original jurisdiction should be invoked, and the function of special masters, who, as adjuncts to the Court, facilitate negotiated settlements or provide the factual information needed by the Court to render sound decisions. Zimmerman analyzes a wide range of specific disputes, from boundary lines to financial matters to water allocation, diversion, and pollution. To alleviate the Court's exceptionally heavy and critically important appellate workload, the author proposes alternative mechanisms for resolving controversies between sister states, including interstate boundary compacts, interstate regulatory compacts, and several congressional initiatives.Interstate controversiesUnited StatesJurisdictionUnited StatesInterstate controversiesJurisdiction342.73/0413Zimmerman Joseph Francis1928-275771MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910823515303321Interstate disputes3986274UNINA
