The collection’s touchstone comes from St. Augustine’s interpretation of Psalm 59:11: “Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down,” as it applied to Jews in Christendom, an interpretation that deeply affected medieval Christian strategies for dealing with Jews in Europe. This collection analyzes how medieval writers and artists, often explicitly invoking Augustine, employed his teachings on these strangers within Christian Europe.Etudes sur le judaïsme médiéval ;t. 60.JudaismRelationsChristianityChristianity and other religionsJudaismChristianity and antisemitismHistoryJewsHistory70-1789Judaism (Christian theology)History of doctrinesMiddle Ages, 600-1500EuropeChurch history600-1500JudaismRelationsChristianity.Christianity and other religionsJudaism.Christianity and antisemitismHistory.JewsHistoryJudaism (Christian theology)History of doctrines305.892/404Utterback Kristine T1687602Utterback Kristine T1687602Price Merrall Llewelyn1965-1687603MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910822395003321Jews in medieval Christendom4061209UNINA
