Enabled by recent progress in data availability, this paper applies BSA to Georgia, focusing on currency mismatches. In reviewing developments over the last five years, the paper finds that the still-high level of dollarization continues to create financial vulnerabilities, but that the overall level of currency mismatch has fallen and that liquidity problems are unlikely, in part owing to a strengthening of sectoral buffers, hedges, and insurance against shocks. Policy recommendations include accumulating reserves, strengthening securities markets, enhancing banking supervision, and maintaining a flexible exchange rate.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2006/173Dollar, AmericanFiscal policyGeorgiaMonetary policyGeorgiaBanks and BankingimfExports and ImportsimfFinance: GeneralimfMoney and Monetary PolicyimfMethodology for Collecting, Estimating, and Organizing Macroeconomic DataimfData AccessimfMacroeconomic Policy, Macroeconomic Aspects of Public Finance, and General Outlook: GeneralimfAccountingimfMacroeconomic Analyses of Economic DevelopmentimfEconomywide Country Studies: EuropeimfBanksimfDepository InstitutionsimfMicro Finance InstitutionsimfMortgagesimfMonetary SystemsimfStandardsimfRegimesimfGovernment and the Monetary SystemimfPayment SystemsimfGeneral Financial Markets: Government Policy and RegulationimfInternational Lending and Debt ProblemsimfMonetary PolicyimfBankingimfMonetary economicsimfFinanceimfInternational economicsimfCommercial banksimfCurrenciesimfCurrency mismatchesimfExternal debtimfInternational reservesimfFinancial institutionsimfMoneyimfFinancial sector policy and analysisimfCentral banksimfBanks and bankingimfFinancial risk managementimfDebts, ExternalimfForeign exchange reservesimfGeorgiaimfDollar, American.Fiscal policyMonetary policyBanks and BankingExports and ImportsFinance: GeneralMoney and Monetary PolicyMethodology for Collecting, Estimating, and Organizing Macroeconomic DataData AccessMacroeconomic Policy, Macroeconomic Aspects of Public Finance, and General Outlook: GeneralAccountingMacroeconomic Analyses of Economic DevelopmentEconomywide Country Studies: EuropeBanksDepository InstitutionsMicro Finance InstitutionsMortgagesMonetary SystemsStandardsRegimesGovernment and the Monetary SystemPayment SystemsGeneral Financial Markets: Government Policy and RegulationInternational Lending and Debt ProblemsMonetary PolicyBankingMonetary economicsFinanceInternational economicsCommercial banksCurrenciesCurrency mismatchesExternal debtInternational reservesFinancial institutionsMoneyFinancial sector policy and analysisCentral banksBanks and bankingFinancial risk managementDebts, ExternalForeign exchange reservesBillmeier Andreas1685965Mathisen Johan1601439International Monetary Fund.Middle East and Central Asia Dept.DcWaIMFBOOK9910822023703321Analyzing Balance Sheet Vulnerabilities in a Dollarized Economy4065318UNINA
