This book provides a comprehensive analysis of western political philosophy and underlines the core principles of each argument. It then argues that neither have we solved nor do we have any pathway to eventually solve, the question of right and wrong--we are essentially moral relativists in disguise. In order to break out of this cycle of uncertainty, the book proposes a solution of knowledge-based cognition: policy based on a concrete and proven understanding of an absolute and certain body of truths. This requires an analysis and blending of non-western political philosophical traditions, such as those espoused by Islam and Confucianism. This book gives an original critique of western political philosophy and is the first book to engage in a reconstruction of Islamic political philosophy." -- Back cover.Vernon series in Politics.Political sciencePhilosophyPolitical sciencePhilosophy.320.01Islam Jaan859979MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910820725103321Political Philosophy in the East and West4078420UNINA03726nam 22006975 450 991025424070332120200702040539.03-319-34229-010.1007/978-3-319-34229-0(CKB)3710000000685995(EBL)4530829(DE-He213)978-3-319-34229-0(MiAaPQ)EBC4530829(PPN)194074242(EXLCZ)99371000000068599520160521d2016 u| 0engur|n|---|||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierSurface Modifications and Growth of Titanium Dioxide for Photo-Electrochemical Water Splitting /by John Alexander1st ed. 2016.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Springer,2016.1 online resource (366 p.)Springer Theses, Recognizing Outstanding Ph.D. Research,2190-5053Description based upon print version of record.3-319-34227-4 Includes bibliographical references at the end of each chapters.Introduction -- Literature Review -- Principles of Photo-electrochemical Cells -- Experimental Methods -- Results: Plasmonic Photocurrent with AuNP-TiO2 -- Electrochemistry of TiO2 – Rutile (110) -- TiO2 Thin Films on Fused Silica -- Epitaxial TiO2 Thin Films on Single Crystal Substrates -- Conclusions. This outstanding thesis provides a wide-ranging overview of the growth of titanium dioxide thin films and its use in photo-electrochemicals such as water splitting. The context for water splitting is introduced with the theory of semiconductor-liquid junctions, which are dealt with in detail. In particular plasmonic enhancement of TiO2 by the addition of gold nanoparticles is considered in depth, including a thorough and critical review of the literature, which discusses the possible mechanisms that may be at work. Plasmonic enhancement is demonstrated with gold nanoparticles on Nb-doped TiO2. Finally, the use of temperature and pressure to control the phase and morphology of thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition is presented.Springer Theses, Recognizing Outstanding Ph.D. Research,2190-5053Engineering—MaterialsMaterials scienceElectrochemistryNanoscienceNanoscienceNanostructuresMaterials Engineeringhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T28000Characterization and Evaluation of Materialshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/Z17000Electrochemistryhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/C21010Nanoscale Science and Technologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P25140Engineering—Materials.Materials science.Electrochemistry.Nanoscience.Nanoscience.Nanostructures.Materials Engineering.Characterization and Evaluation of Materials.Electrochemistry.Nanoscale Science and Technology.546.5122Alexander Johnauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1014616MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910254240703321Surface Modifications and Growth of Titanium Dioxide for Photo-Electrochemical Water Splitting2524392UNINA
