Concluding RemarksThis paper examines the effects of IMF financial assistance on economic governance in developing countries, based on panel data analyses of perceived governance indicators. It uses a two-stage approach to address possible endogeneity issues. The results show that successful implementation of IMF programs is associated with improvements in the quality of economic governance. Specifically, the paper finds statistically robust results that IMF concessional programs through the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility tend to enhance the rule of law and strengthen control of corruption. Through this exercise, however, no statistically significant effect is observed for assistances under the General Resource Account.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2008/114Economic assistanceDeveloping countriesEconometric modelsEconomic developmentDeveloping countriesEconometric modelsAdministrative Processes in Public OrganizationsimfBankingimfBanks and BankingimfBanks and bankingimfBanksimfBureaucracyimfCorporate crimeimfCorruptionimfCriminologyimfDepository InstitutionsimfDiscrete Regression and Qualitative Choice ModelsimfDiscrete RegressorsimfEconometric modelsimfEconometrics & economic statisticsimfEconometricsimfIncomeimfLegal support in revenue administrationimfMacroeconomicsimfMicro Finance InstitutionsimfMortgagesimfPersonal incomeimfPersonal Income, Wealth, and Their DistributionsimfProbit modelsimfProportionsimfPublic finance & taxationimfPublic FinanceimfRevenueimfTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: GeneralimfWhite-collar crimeimfMontenegroimfEconomic assistanceEconometric models.Economic developmentEconometric models.Administrative Processes in Public OrganizationsBankingBanks and BankingBanks and bankingBanksBureaucracyCorporate crimeCorruptionCriminologyDepository InstitutionsDiscrete Regression and Qualitative Choice ModelsDiscrete RegressorsEconometric modelsEconometrics & economic statisticsEconometricsIncomeLegal support in revenue administrationMacroeconomicsMicro Finance InstitutionsMortgagesPersonal incomePersonal Income, Wealth, and Their DistributionsProbit modelsProportionsPublic finance & taxationPublic FinanceRevenueTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: GeneralWhite-collar crime353.00722Honda Jiro1647823DcWaIMFBOOK9910820697303321Do IMF Programs Improve Economic Governance3995617UNINA
