Rai; published for and on behalf of the United NationsManchester University Press2003Manchester, UK :Manchester University Press,2018.©20031 online resource (298 pages) illustrations; digital, PDF file(s)Perspectives on democratizationFirst published: 2003.1-5261-3749-6 Includes bibliographical references and index.Democratization has become an important concept in the last ten years. With the end of the Cold War, the spread of globalization, and the extension of economic regulatory regimes, democratization has come to be seen as important to securing long-term political stability. Much has been written about democratization and gender in works on human rights, citizenship, women's movements and challenges to authoritarian regimes. This book, published in association with the United Nations, builds on this existing body of literature by looking at the relevance of national machineries for the advancement of women. Appropriate mechanisms through which the mainstreaming of gender can take place are considered, and the levels of governance involved - the relationship between gender mainstreaming and state structures, and the effect of this relationship on issues of decentralization, accountability, consultation and participation. It defines what the 'interests of women' are, and how and by what processes these interests are represented to the state policy making structures. Global strategies for the advancement of women, and how far these have penetrated at national level are considered. This is illuminated by a series of case studies - gender equality in Sweden and other Nordic countries, the Ugandan ministry of Gender, Culture and Social services, gender awareness in Central and Eastern Europe, and further examples from South Korea, the Lebanon, Beijing and Australia. This book will be of vital use to students of democratization, gender studies and politics, and is the first full-length appraisal of global strategies and national machineries for the advancement of women.Perspectives on democratization.DemocratizationEqualityWomenGovernment policyWomenPolitical activityWomenSocial conditionsglobalizationdemocratizationpoliticsswedenugandaAccountabilityCivil societyGender equalityGender mainstreamingWomen's rightsDemocratization.Equality.WomenGovernment policy.WomenPolitical activity.WomenSocial conditions.305.42Rai Shirin Mauth147220Rai ShirinUnited Nations.Division for the Advancement of Women,UkMaJRUBOOK996552369903316Mainstreaming gender, democratizing the State1963229UNISA03518nam 2200673 450 991081938240332120200520144314.03-11-041910-63-11-041916-510.1515/9783110419108(CKB)3710000000420612(EBL)2048595(SSID)ssj0001482270(PQKBManifestationID)11904141(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001482270(PQKBWorkID)11508853(PQKB)11287295(MiAaPQ)EBC2048595(DE-B1597)450650(OCoLC)979912465(DE-B1597)9783110419108(Au-PeEL)EBL2048595(CaPaEBR)ebr11061432(CaONFJC)MIL807778(OCoLC)909143840(PPN)202106187(EXLCZ)99371000000042061220150615h20152015 uy 0freur|n|---|||||txtccrLe contre-discours coranique /Mehdi AzaiezBerlin, [Germany] ;Boston, Massachusetts :Walter de Gruyter,2015.©20151 online resource (364 p.)Studies in the History and Culture of the Middle East ;30Description based upon print version of record.3-11-060946-0 3-11-041999-8 Includes bibliographical references and index.Frontmatter -- Préface -- Table des matières -- Système de translittération (Arabica) -- Abréviations -- Introduction -- Chapitre I. This feature of the Koranic text has been neglected in earlier scholarship although it is connected to the larger question of the religious milieu in which the Koran emerged. Accordingly, the topic is of considerable importance to our understanding of Islamic origins.
