After devoting considerable attention to the circle surrounding the band The Plastic People of the Universe and their manager, the poet Ivan M. Jirous, Machovec turns outward to examine the broader concept of the underground, comparing the Czech incarnation not only with the movements of its Central and Eastern European neighbors, but also with those in the world at large. In one essay, he reflects on the so-called Pulnoc Editions, which published illegal texts in the darkest days of the late forties and early fifties. In other essays, Machovec examines the relationship between illegal texts published at home (samizdat) and those smuggled out to be published abroad (tamizdat), as well as the range of literature that can be classified as samizdat, drawing attention to movements frequently overlooked by literary critics. In his final, previously unpublished essay, Machovec examines Jirous's "Report on the Third Czech Musical Revival" not as a merely historical document, but as literature itself.Underground literatureCzechoslovakiaCzech literature20th centuryCzechoslovakiafastUnderground literatureCzech literature891.8609005Machovec Martin1956-1661806MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910818366203321Writing underground4017958UNINA02377nas 2200745-a 450 991013917560332120240912213021.0(OCoLC)60621360(CKB)960238494103(CONSER)--2009268138(EXLCZ)9996023849410320050614a19789999 s-- -engurun|||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierCanadian journal of family law =Revue canadienne de droit familial[Agincourt, Ont.?] Canadian Journal of Family LawRefereed/Peer-reviewedTitle from title screen (Hein Online, viewed August 18, 2009).0704-1225 Revue canadienne de droit familialCAN J FAM LAWDomestic relationsCanadaPeriodicalsMarriageChild Welfarelegislation & jurisprudenceChild WelfareFamilylegislation & jurisprudenceFamilyMarriagelegislation & jurisprudenceMarriageFamillesDroitCanadaPériodiquesFamille (Droit)CanadaJurisprudencePériodiquesFamillesMariageMarriagefast(OCoLC)fst01010443Domestic relationsfast(OCoLC)fst00896646CanadaCanadafasthttps://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJkMHVW4rfVXPrhVP4VwG3Periodicalperiodicals.aatPeriodicals.fastPeriodicals.lcgftPériodiques.rvmgfDomestic relationsMarriage.Child Welfarelegislation & jurisprudenceChild WelfareFamilylegislation & jurisprudence.FamilyMarriagelegislation & jurisprudenceMarriageFamillesDroitFamille (Droit)JurisprudenceFamilles.Mariage.Marriage.Domestic relations.346.7101/5/05347.1061505JOURNAL9910139175603321Canadian journal of family law2276464UNINA
