This paper finds that divergences across euro-area countries are smaller and have not risen relative to those across 13 other advanced economies with more flexible exchange rates. Also, the size of country-specific current account shocks in EMU countries is smaller and their persistence is greater than in the other advanced economies. However, these differences in current account dynamics do not appear related to different exchange rate dynamics.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2009/127Foreign exchange ratesEuropean Union countriesForeign exchangeEuropean Union countriesExports and ImportsimfForeign ExchangeimfCurrent Account AdjustmentimfShort-term Capital MovementsimfInternational economicsimfCurrencyimfForeign exchangeimfCurrent accountimfReal exchange ratesimfCurrent account balanceimfReal effective exchange ratesimfExchange ratesimfBalance of paymentsimfGermanyimfForeign exchange ratesForeign exchangeExports and ImportsForeign ExchangeCurrent Account AdjustmentShort-term Capital MovementsInternational economicsCurrencyForeign exchangeCurrent accountReal exchange ratesCurrent account balanceReal effective exchange ratesExchange ratesBalance of paymentsDecressin Jörg1155853Stavrev Emil1465934DcWaIMFBOOK9910789098203321Current Accounts in a Currency Union3676180UNINA04483nam 2201093 a 450 991078197540332120230207231444.01-283-29175-497866132917520-520-94331-710.1525/9780520943315(CKB)2550000000057113(EBL)804874(OCoLC)763158169(SSID)ssj0000555423(PQKBManifestationID)11381457(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000555423(PQKBWorkID)10519297(PQKB)11780154(MiAaPQ)EBC804874(DE-B1597)521042(OCoLC)1058080307(DE-B1597)9780520943315(Au-PeEL)EBL804874(CaPaEBR)ebr10504613(CaONFJC)MIL329175(EXLCZ)99255000000005711320071217d2009 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrRighteous dopefiend[electronic resource] /Philippe Bourgois, Jeff SchonbergBerkeley University of California Pressc20091 online resource (392 p.)California series in public anthropology ;21Description based upon print version of record.0-520-25498-8 0-520-23088-4 Includes bibliographical references and index.Introduction: a theory of abuse --Intimate apartheid --Falling in love --A community of addicted bodies --Childhoods --Making money --Parenting --Male love --Everyday addicts --Treatment --Conclusion: critically applied public anthropology. This powerful study immerses the reader in the world of homelessness and drug addiction in the contemporary United States. For over a decade Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg followed a social network of two dozen heroin injectors and crack smokers on the streets of San Francisco, accompanying them as they scrambled to generate income through burglary, panhandling, recycling, and day labor. Righteous Dopefiend interweaves stunning black-and-white photographs with vivid dialogue, detailed field notes, and critical theoretical analysis. Its gripping narrative develops a cast of characters around the themes of violence, race relations, sexuality, family trauma, embodied suffering, social inequality, and power relations. The result is a dispassionate chronicle of survival, loss, caring, and hope rooted in the addicts' determination to hang on for one more day and one more "fix" through a "moral economy of sharing" that precariously balances mutual solidarity and interpersonal betrayal.California series in public anthropology ;21.Drug addictsUnited StatesSocial conditionsDrug addictsUnited StatesEconomic conditionsHomeless personsDrug useUnited StatesMarginality, SocialUnited Statesaddiction.betrayal.biography.black and white photography.burglary.dialogue.dispassionate chronicle.drug abusers.drug and alcohol abuse.gonzo journalism.gripping narrative.heroin.homeless.human survival.inequality.larceny.life of a drug addict.memoir.opioid epidemic.overdose.panhandling.race relations.racism.san francisco drug scene.sexuality.solidarity.suffering.theoretical analysis.trauma.treatment of addicts.vicious cycle.violence.Drug addictsSocial conditions.Drug addictsEconomic conditions.Homeless personsDrug useMarginality, Social305.9/0874Bourgois Philippe I.1956-623711Schonberg Jeff1967-790632MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910781975403321Righteous dopefiend1765947UNINA04220nam 22011174a 450 991081714230332120240410064958.00-520-92517-397866123565441-282-35654-21-59734-549-010.1525/9780520925175(CKB)111056485640968(EBL)224327(OCoLC)475930534(SSID)ssj0000124908(PQKBManifestationID)11129779(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000124908(PQKBWorkID)10024218(PQKB)11526988(StDuBDS)EDZ0000055957(MiAaPQ)EBC224327(OCoLC)49570151(MdBmJHUP)muse30645(DE-B1597)520713(DE-B1597)9780520925175(Au-PeEL)EBL224327(CaPaEBR)ebr10057104(CaONFJC)MIL235654(dli)HEB09229(MiU)MIU01000000000000011663270(EXLCZ)9911105648564096820000525d2001 ub 0engurnn#---|u||utxtccrThe colonial Bastille a history of imprisonment in Vietnam, 1862-1940 /Peter Zinoman1st ed.Berkeley University of California Pressc20011 online resource (373 p.)"A Philip E. Using prison memoirs, newspaper articles, and extensive archival records, Zinoman presents a wealth of significant new information to document how colonial prisons, rather than quelling political dissent and maintaining order, instead became institutions that promoted nationalism and revolutionary education.PrisonsVietnamHistoryNational liberation movementsVietnamHistoryNationalismVietnamHistoryarchives.colonial power.colonial prisons.colonialism.colonies.dissent.documentary history.empire.french colonialism.french colony.french history.history.imperialism.imprisonment.indochina.indochine.memoir.military.nationalism.newspapers.nonfiction.oral history.political dissent.political prisoners.prison memoir.prison system.prison.rebellion.resistance.revolution.vietnam.vietnamese history.vietnamese nationalism.vietnamese.PrisonsHistory.National liberation movementsHistory.NationalismHistory.365/.9597Zinoman Peter1965-1012972MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910817142303321The colonial Bastille4024594UNINA
