[et al.].Oxidative stress and inflammation are among the most important factors of disease. Chronic infections, obesity, alcohol and tobacco usage, radiation, environmental pollutants, and high-calorie diets have been recognized as major risk factors for a variety of chronic diseases from cancer to metabolic diseases. All these risk factors are linked to chronic diseases through inflammation. While short-term, acute inflammation generated by the immune system serves a therapeutic role, chronic low-level inflammation that may persist silently for decades is responsible for chronic diseases. Inflammation, Lifestyle, and Chronic Diseases: The Silent Link describes the role of dysregulated inflammation in persistent and recurring diseases. It investigates links to lifestyle and presents research on how the suppression of proinflammatory pathways may provide opportunities for both prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. The book covers neurodegenerative diseases, pulmonary diseases, asthma, rheumatic and arthritic diseases, skin disease, heart disease, chronic wounds, infectious disease, neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression, gastrointestinal diseases, insulin resistance, and cancer, many of which are also diseases of old age. For each chronic disease, contributors review the clinical and scientific literature and examine current and potential therapies, including conventional pharmacotherapies as well as natural products. Noting that the long-term use of steroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can cause adverse side effects, many of the chapters address the role of dietary agents such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, pulses, nuts, and spices as ideal anti-inflammatory agents that can be consumed regularly. The book also suggests directions for further research. Clinical and science researchers, students, and health professionals interested in the link between inflammation, lifestyle, and chronic diseases will find this an informative resource--Provided by publisher.Oxidative Stress and DiseaseInflammationImmunological aspectsInflammationPathophysiologyChronic diseasesEtiologyDiseasesCauses and theories of causationInflammationImmunological aspects.InflammationPathophysiology.Chronic diseasesEtiology.DiseasesCauses and theories of causation.616/.0473Aggarwal Bharat B.1950-1600327Krishnan Sunil1608409Guha Sushovan1608410MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910815067603321Inflammation, lifestyle, and chronic disease3935116UNINA04229nam 22006615 450 991029839820332120200704114130.03-319-78699-710.1007/978-3-319-78699-5(CKB)3850000000032841(DE-He213)978-3-319-78699-5(MiAaPQ)EBC5596926(PPN)229505279(EXLCZ)99385000000003284120180702d2018 u| 0engurnn|008mamaatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAnatomy, Age and Ecology of High Mountain Plants in Ladakh, the Western Himalaya /by Jiří Doležal, Miroslav Dvorský, Annett Börner, Jan Wild, Fritz Hans Schweingruber1st ed. 2018.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Springer,2018.1 online resource (IX, 616 p.) 3-319-78697-0 Introduction -- Anatomical descriptions of horsetails, ferns -- Anatomical descriptions of Dicotyledons -- Anatomical descriptions of Monocotyledons -- Synthesis of anatomical, ecological and phylogenetical data -- Material and methods. This aesthetically unique book combines ecological, morphological and anatomical, as well as phylogenetic studies on plant material in a largely unexplored dry mountain region above the timberline. It offers the first comparative analysis of hundreds of plants - annuals, perennial herbs and dwarf shrubs - in an area of 87,000 km2 at altitudes from 2600 to 6150 m above sea level in the Western Himalaya. Characteristic landscape pictures of all major vegetation types and maps show at which locations and altitudes the individual species of vascular plants are distributed, while macroscopic plant pictures and plant age are related to high-quality micro-sections and micro-photographs. The anatomical features of 345 dicotyledons were characterized using the published coding systems and those of 155 monocotyledones were characterized on the basis of a newly developed key. The number of annual rings and anatomical features of the xylem and phloem of dicots are compared and related to different ecological conditions within this extremely dry and cold environment. The ecological and anatomical characterization is used to create a phylogenetic tree based on nucleotide sequences, and indicates which features are genetically stable and which ones are modified by environmental factors. The book appeals to scientists in the fields of plant taxonomy, morphology, anatomy and ecology. .Plant systematicsPlant taxonomyPlant anatomyPlant developmentPlant ecologyEcosystemsPlant Systematics/Taxonomy/Biogeographyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L24051Plant Anatomy/Developmenthttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L24019Plant Ecologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19112Ecosystemshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L1904XPlant systematics.Plant taxonomy.Plant anatomy.Plant development.Plant ecology.Ecosystems.Plant Systematics/Taxonomy/Biogeography.Plant Anatomy/Development.Plant Ecology.Ecosystems.578.012578.09Doležal Jiříauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1058051Dvorský Miroslavauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autBörner Annettauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autWild Janauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autSchweingruber Fritz Hansauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autBOOK9910298398203321Anatomy, Age and Ecology of High Mountain Plants in Ladakh, the Western Himalaya2496871UNINA
