Accordingly, the due diligence standard presents a way to measure whether a state has fulfilled its obligations to prevent and respond to violence against women. Despite its growing popularity as a tool for promoting greater state accountability for violence against women by non-state actors, the content and scope of due diligence obligations remain vague. Against the backdrop of contemporary issues that pose threats to women’s rights, the contributors to this volume examine how the due diligence standard and other strategies can be applied as useful mechanisms to combat violence against women in various cultures worldwide.Nijhoff law specials ;73.WomenLegal status, laws, etcSex discrimination against womenWomenViolence againstWomenCrimes againstWomen's rightsHuman rightsHuman traffickingWomenLegal status, laws, etc.Sex discrimination against women.WomenViolence against.WomenCrimes against.Women's rights.Human rights.Human trafficking.342.0878Benninger-Budel Carin1658463MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910813428503321Due diligence and its application to protect women from violence4012478UNINA03504nam 2200697 a 450 991082905620332120200520144314.01-282-75878-097866127587820-520-92367-71-59734-475-310.1525/9780520923676(CKB)111090860414134(EBL)223694(OCoLC)475928801(SSID)ssj0000107062(PQKBManifestationID)11133722(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000107062(PQKBWorkID)10007006(PQKB)10505458(StDuBDS)EDZ0000056130(MiAaPQ)EBC223694(OCoLC)55879085(MdBmJHUP)muse30327(DE-B1597)519871(DE-B1597)9780520923676(Au-PeEL)EBL223694(CaPaEBR)ebr10058842(CaONFJC)MIL275878(EXLCZ)9911109086041413420000510d2001 ub 0engurnn#---|u||utxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAt the dawn of modernity biology, culture, and material life in Europe after the year 1000 /David Levine1st ed.Berkeley University of California Pressc20011 online resource (vii, 431 pages)Description based upon print version of record.0-520-22058-7 Includes bibliographical references and index.Front matter --Contents --Preface --Considering the Subject --1. Recombinant Mutations --After-words --IndexLooking at a neglected period in the social history of modernization, David Levine investigates the centuries that followed the year 1000, when a new kind of society emerged in Europe. New commercial routines, new forms of agriculture, new methods of information technology, and increased population densities all played a role in the prolonged transition away from antiquity and toward modernity. At the Dawn of Modernity highlights both "top-down" and "bottom-up" changes that characterized the social experience of early modernization. In the former category are the Gregorian Reformation, the imposition of feudalism, and the development of centralizing state formations. Of equal importance to Levine's portrait of the emerging social order are the bottom-up demographic relations that structured everyday life, because the making of the modern world, in his view, also began in the decisions made by countless men and women regarding their families and circumstances. Levine ends his story with the cataclysm unleashed by the Black Death in 1348, which brought three centuries of growth to a grim end.Civilization, MedievalSocial historyMedieval, 500-1500Human bodySocial aspectsHistoryEuropeChurch history600-1500Civilization, Medieval.Social historyHuman bodySocial aspectsHistory.940.1Levine David1946-770470MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910829056203321At the dawn of modernity3995243UNINA
