Before lighting up our homes, it changes hands through specialized electricity markets that rely on engineering expertise to trade competitively while respecting the physical requirements of the electric grid. The Current Economy is an ethnography of electricity markets in the United States that shows the heterogenous and technologically inflected nature of economic expertise today. Based on ethnographic fieldwork among market data analysts, electric grid engineers, and citizen activists, this book provides a deep dive into the convoluted economy of electricity and its reverberations throughout daily life. Canay Özden-Schilling argues that many of the economic formations in everyday life come from work cultures rarely suspected of doing economic work: cultures of science, technology, and engineering that often do not have a claim to economic theory or practice, yet nonetheless dictate forms of economic activity. Contributing to economic anthropology, science and technology studies, energy studies, and the anthropology of expertise, this book is a map of the everyday infrastructures of economy and energy into which we are plugged as denizens of a technological world.ExpertiseEconomic aspectsUnited StatesMarketsSocial aspectsUnited StatesElectric utilitiesUnited Statesderegulation.economic anthropology.economics.electric grid.electricity.engineering.infrastructure.markets.restructuring.the United States.ExpertiseEconomic aspectsMarketsSocial aspectsElectric utilities333.79320973Özden-Schilling Canay1621632MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910808941003321The current economy3955038UNINA02774nam 22005653 450 991016495300332120241107102040.00-698-19400-4(CKB)3710000001064313(MiAaPQ)EBC6050116(Au-PeEL)EBL6050116(OCoLC)974003350(ODN)ODN0002560615(EXLCZ)99371000000106431320210901d2017 uy 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierWait for Dark1st ed.2017East Rutherford :Penguin Publishing Group,2017.©2017.1 online resource (221 pages)Bishop/Special Crimes Unit ;v.170-425-28094-2 "An SCU team investigates a string of accidents, only to uncover a deadly and deliberate monster in the latest novel from New York Times bestselling author Kay Hooper. In Clarity, North Carolina, the residents have fallen victim to an unfortunate series of events. Seemingly random accidents have taken the lives of several citizens in the small mountain town. But these deadly coincidences are anything but. Something is on the hunt in Clarity, and the only clue as to what is a cryptic note given to the victims 24 hours before they meet their ends: "Wait for dark." Sheriff Mal Gordon knows how to handle his town, but he has no idea how to handle this. Hollis Templeton and her team from the Special Crimes Unit, including her partner and lover, telepath Reese DeMarco, are called in to investigate. But while the SCU has prepared them for the unknown, the incredible evil stalking Clarity shakes the team to its core when one of their own is targeted. Now Hollis, the "cat with nine lives" finds herself facing death again. And this time, not even her partner can protect her."--Provided by publisher.Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Government investigatorsFictionMurderInvestigationNorth CarolinaFictionFICTION / SuspensebisacshFICTION / Mystery & Detective / Police ProceduralbisacshMystery fiction.gsafdSuspense fiction.gsafdGovernment investigatorsMurderInvestigationFICTION / Suspense.FICTION / Mystery & Detective / Police Procedural.813.6FIC030000FIC022020bisacshHooper Kay1247522MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910164953003321Wait for Dark2891934UNINA01852oam 2200517zu 450 991014545680332120241212215418.097815386006031538600609(CKB)1000000000278029(SSID)ssj0000395152(PQKBManifestationID)12104825(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000395152(PQKBWorkID)10451116(PQKB)11071935(EXLCZ)99100000000027802920160829d2006 uy engtxtccrFifth International Conference on Hybrid Intelligent Systems : HIS 2005 : [proceedings] : 6-9 November, 2005, Rio de Janerio, Brazil[Place of publication not identified]IEEE Computer Society2006Bibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph9780769524573 0769524575 Soft computingCongressesHybrid computersCongressesNeural networks (Computer science)CongressesFuzzy systemsCongressesExpert systems (Computer science)CongressesArtificial intelligenceCongressesSoft computingHybrid computersNeural networks (Computer science)Fuzzy systemsExpert systems (Computer science)Artificial intelligenceIEEE Computer Society,Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico (Brazil),International Conference on Hybrid Intelligent Systems.PQKBPROCEEDING9910145456803321Fifth International Conference on Hybrid Intelligent Systems : HIS 2005 : : 6-9 November, 2005, Rio de Janerio, Brazil2384936UNINA
