ALS causes a progressive loss of muscle function that frequently initiates in the limbs, called limb-onset ALS, or initiates in facial muscles, called bulbar-onset ALS. This book describes the current understanding of ALS symptoms, diagnosis, causes, and treatments. Initial symptoms vary in type of muscle dysfunction, intensity of symptoms, and speed of disease progression. Diagnosis requires loss of function in both upper and lower motor neurons for limb- and bulbar-onset ALS, distinguishing ALS from other neuromuscular diseases. Although no cause or initial trigger has been determined for ALS, eventually both limb and bulbar muscles will show dysfunction as the disease progresses. In later stages of the disease, muscle dysfunction typically leads to respiratory failure and death. Management of neurotransmitter levels in patients can prolong life by months, but no cure exits for the disease. Other treatments exist that can help patients manage muscle weakness or spasms as the disease progresses. The book concludes by considering future detection, treatment, and diagnostic approaches with the goal of preventing disease initiation or progression.Human diseases and conditions collection.Amyotrophic lateral sclerosisAmyotrophic Lateral SclerosisLibros electronicos.amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)Lou Gehrig's diseasemotor neuron diseaseneuromuscular junctionlimb-onset ALSbulbar-onset ALSmuscle weaknessAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis.Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.616.83Miller Mary E.940760FINmELBFINmELBBOOK9910136584103321Nerve disease ALS and gradual loss of muscle function2121485UNINA02588nam 2200589 450 991079736430332120230807221112.01-78560-377-9(CKB)3710000000445933(EBL)2093102(SSID)ssj0001559119(PQKBManifestationID)16185984(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001559119(PQKBWorkID)14820178(PQKB)11052603(MiAaPQ)EBC2093102(Au-PeEL)EBL2093102(CaPaEBR)ebr11077154(OCoLC)921278904(EXLCZ)99371000000044593320150727h20152015 uy 0engurcnu||||||||txtccrIndian management and the global business /guest editors, Professor Keyoor Purani, Professor Saji Gopinath and Professor Rudra Sensarma[Bradford, England] :Emerald,2015.©20151 online resource (117 p.)Journal of Indian Business Research,1755-4195 ;Volume 7, Issue 2Description based upon print version of record.1-78560-376-0 Includes bibliographical references at the end of each chapters.Cover; EDITORIAL ADVISORY BOARD; Guest editorial; Do Indian management practices drive global research agenda?; Process conflict management among Indian software employees; A case study on downstream supply chain of an Indian alcoholic beverage manufacturer; Global banking after the GFC: lessons for India; Developing ASEAN India partnership for fostering technology developmentThis e-book from the Journal of Indian Business Research attempts to bring together some insightful articles around the theme 'Indian Management and the Global Business' as an outcome of the second Pan-IIM World Management Conference organized by the Indian Institutes of Management in November 2014 at IIM Kozhikode around the main theme of ""Globalizing the Indian Thought"".Journal of Indian Business Research: Volume 7, Issue 2ManagementIndiaCase studiesManagementIndiaManagementManagement658.40630954Purani KeyoorGopinath SajiSensarma RudraMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910797364303321Indian management and the global business3725535UNINA
