Making the Company Work.In Lobbying in Company , Joris van den Tol argues that people made a difference in the Dutch West India Company colony in Brazil (1630-1654). Through a combination of petitions, personal relations, and public opinion, individuals were able to exercise influence on the decision-making process regarding Dutch Brazil. His thorough analysis of these different elements offers a new perspective on the Atlantic and the Dutch Republic in the 17th century as well as a better understanding of lobbying in the Early Modern period. It was not the organizational structure that decided success and failure, but it was the people that made a difference. The Atlantic World ;38.LobbyingNetherlandsHistory17the centuryLobbyingBrazilHistory17the centuryLobbyingHistoryLobbyingHistory382.0981Tol Joris van den1544500MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910794390303321Lobbying in company3806433UNINA03839nam 2200505 450 991079298630332120230809224011.090-04-34126-910.1163/9789004341265(CKB)3710000001300351(MiAaPQ)EBC5103349(OCoLC)967831017(nllekb)BRILL9789004341265(Au-PeEL)EBL5103349(CaPaEBR)ebr11453994(CaONFJC)MIL1041433(OCoLC)1007058971(EXLCZ)99371000000130035120171113h20172017 uy 0freurcnu||||||||rdacontentrdamediardacarrierDroit musulman et société au Sahara prémoderne la justice islamique dans les oasis du Grand Touat (Algérie) aux XVIIe-XIXe siècles /par Ismail WarscheidLeiden, Netherlands ;Boston, [Massachusetts] :Brill,2017.©20171 online resource (303 pages) illustrations (some color), mapsStudies in the History and Society of the Maghrib,1877-9808 ;Volume 990-04-34016-5 Includes bibliographical references and index. Pre-modern Islamic legal practice is most often considered an essentially urban phenomenon. Relying on unedited fatwa collections and other Arabic manuscripts from the oasis of Tuwāt in southern Algeria, Droit musulman et société au Sahara prémoderne challenges this vision. The book explores the spread of Islamic legal institutions in the region between the seventeenth and the nineteenth centuries, and the interaction between village communities and Muslim jurists. Ismail Warscheid investigates this process from a dialectical perspective: how were sharʿī norms applied by local qadis and muftis, and how did local populations made use of court litigation, notarial certification, and legal consultation?Studies in the history and society of the Maghrib ;Volume 9.Islamic lawAlgeriaTouat RegionHistoryIslamic lawHistory.349.65009/03Warscheid Ismail1094239MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910792986303321Droit musulman et société au Sahara prémoderne3726025UNINA
