In fact, it was an age of thwarted ambition, when the take-up of new technologies proved frustratingly slow. The eighteenth century was more accurately the age of Baltic iron. Swedish and Russian iron surged onto the British market, meeting the demand that British ironmasters could not satisfy. This was of epochal importance: Swedish iron allowed British steel makers and hardware manufacturers to dominate Atlantic markets. In turn, the rhythms of Atlantic commerce resounded through peasant communities in Sweden. Baltic iron in the Atlantic world captures this moment. In doing so it internationalises Swedish history in a radical way and presses an oceanic perspective on the traditionally insular view of the rise of heavy industry in Britain.Atlantic world (Leiden, Netherlands) ;v. 13.Iron industry and tradeGreat BritainHistory18th centuryIron industry and tradeSwedenHistory18th centuryIron industry and tradeRussiaHistory18th centuryElectronic books.Iron industry and tradeHistoryIron industry and tradeHistoryIron industry and tradeHistory382/.42309485Evans Chris1961-967217Rydén Göran967218MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910453278603321Baltic iron in the Atlantic world in the eighteenth century2195729UNINA02821nam 2200577 450 991079216650332120200520144314.01-78238-273-910.1515/9781782382737(CKB)2560000000141553(EBL)1375285(SSID)ssj0001132805(PQKBManifestationID)12376828(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001132805(PQKBWorkID)11155636(PQKB)10027201(MiAaPQ)EBC1375285(Au-PeEL)EBL1375285(CaPaEBR)ebr10856046(CaONFJC)MIL587512(OCoLC)875096099(DE-B1597)637201(DE-B1597)9781782382737(EXLCZ)99256000000014155320140414h20142014 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrA prophetic trajectory ideologies of place, time and belonging in an Angolan religious movement /Ruy Llena BlanesNew York :Berghahn Books,2014.©20141 online resource (248 p.)Description based upon print version of record.1-78238-272-0 Includes bibliographical references and index.Contents; Illustrations; Preface; Introduction - On Prophetic Territories and Temporalities; Part I - Itineraries; Chapter 1 - Trajectories: A Prophetic Biography, Part I; Chapter 2 - Trajectories: A Prophetic Biography, Part 2; Part II - Heritages; Chapter 3 - Transmission: Word, Action and Mediation; Chapter 4 - Trepidation: Spirits, Memories and Disputed Heritages; Chapter 5 - Transcendence: Tokoist Diasporas; Conclusion; Primary Sources; Bibliography; Index Combining ethnographic and historical research conducted in Angola, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, A Prophetic Trajectory tells the story of Simão Toko, the founder and leader of one of the most important contemporary Angolan religious movements. The book explains the historical, ethnic, spiritual, and identity transformations observed within the movement, and debates the politics of remembrance and heritage left behind after Toko's passing in 1984. Ultimately, it questions the categories of prophetism and charisma, as well as the intersections between mobility, memory, and beloRELIGION / Christian Theology / AnthropologybisacshAngolaChurch history20th centuryRELIGION / Christian Theology / Anthropology.289.9/309673Blanes Ruy Llera1976-874688MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910792166503321A prophetic trajectory3850216UNINA
