Data Sources and Collection Methods -- Notes -- References -- IndexThere's a scene in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass in which the Red Queen, having just led a chase with Alice in which neither seems to have moved from the spot where they began, explains to the perplexed girl: "It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place." Evolutionary biologists have used this scene to illustrate the evolutionary arms race among competing species. William Barnett argues that a similar dynamic is at work when organizations compete, shaping how firms and industries evolve over time. Barnett examines the effects--and unforeseen perils--of competing and winning. He takes a fascinating, in-depth look at two of the most competitive industries--computer manufacturing and commercial banking--and derives some startling conclusions. Organizations that survive competition become stronger competitors--but only in the market contexts in which they succeed. Barnett shows how managers may think their experience will help them thrive in new markets and conditions, when in fact the opposite is likely to be the case. He finds that an organization's competitiveness at any given moment hinges on the organization's historical experience. Through Red Queen competition, weaker competitors fail, or they learn and adapt. This in turn heightens the intensity of competition and further strengthens survivors in an ever-evolving dynamic. Written by a leading organizational theorist, The Red Queen among Organizations challenges the prevailing wisdom about competition, revealing it to be a force that can make--and break--even the most successful organization.CompetitionElectronic books.Competition.338.6/04801Barnett William P1050900MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910455222803321The red queen among organizations2481030UNINA05154nam 2200721 a 450 991078999690332120230725031406.01-283-16589-997866131658933-11-024049-110.1515/9783110240498(CKB)2670000000088753(EBL)690622(OCoLC)723945492(SSID)ssj0000530363(PQKBManifestationID)11301309(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000530363(PQKBWorkID)10562195(PQKB)11292337(MiAaPQ)EBC690622(WaSeSS)Ind00009568(DE-B1597)39311(OCoLC)979582480(DE-B1597)9783110240498(Au-PeEL)EBL690622(CaPaEBR)ebr10486425(CaONFJC)MIL316589(EXLCZ)99267000000008875320110819d2011 uy 0engurnn#---|u||utxtccrChanges in scripture[electronic resource] rewriting and interpreting authoritative traditions in the Second Temple Period /edited by Hanne von Weissenberg, Juha Pakkala and Marko MarttilaBerlin De Gruyter20111 online resource (444 p.)Beihefte zur Zeitschrift für die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft,0934-2575 ;Bd. 419Description based upon print version of record.3-11-024048-3 Includes bibliographical references and indexes.Front matter --Contents --1. Indices --Index of Modern Authors --Index of PassagesThe articles in this volume investigate changes in texts that became to be regarded as holy and unchangeable in Judaism and Christianity. The volume seeks to draw attention to the "empirical" evidence from Qumran, the Septuagint as well as from passages in the Hebrew Scriptures that have been shaped by the use of other texts. The contributions are divided into three main sections: The first section deals with methodological questions concerning textual changes. The second section consists of concrete examples from the Hebrew Bible, Qumran and Septuagint on how the texts were changed, corrected, edited and interpreted. The contributions of the third section will investigate the general influence and impact of Deuteronomistic ideology and phraseology on later texts.Beihefte zur Zeitschrift für die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft ;419.RELIGION / Bible / Biography / GeneralbisacshDeuteronomistic Literature.Parabiblical Literature.Rewritten Scripture.Scriptural Interpretation.Second Temple Period.RELIGION / Bible / Biography / General.221.4232.2Weissenberg Hanne von1470234Pakkala Juha896333Marttila Marko1055409MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910789996903321Changes in scripture3681920UNINA
