On one hand, a hero cannot remain a static character if he or she is to appeal to diverse and dynamic communities. On the other hand, a traditional icon should retain some basic features in order to remain recognizable. Joshua son of Nun is an iconic figure of Israelite cultural memory described at length in the Hebrew Bible and venerated in numerous religious traditions. This book uses Joshua as a test case. It tackles reception and redaction history, focusing on the use and development of Joshua’s character and the deployment of his various images in the narratives and texts of several religious traditions. I look for continuities and discontinuities between traditions, as well as cross-pollination and polemic. The first two chapters look at Joshua’s portrayal in biblical literature, using both synchronic (literary analysis) as well as diachronic (Überlieferungsgeschichte and redaction/source criticism) methodologies. The other four chapters focus on the reception history of Joshua in Second Temple and Hellenistic Jewish literature, in the medieval (Arabic) Samaritan Book of Joshua, in the New Testament and Church Fathers, and in Rabbinic literature.Beihefte zur Zeitschrift für die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft ;Volume 457.Typology (Theology)Bible.Joshua.Judaism.Reception History.Typology (Theology)222/.2092Farber Zev1976-1524248MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910788827903321Images of Joshua in the Bible and its reception3764929UNINA04802oam 2200769I 450 991095527790332120251116155955.01-135-13687-40-203-07830-61-283-89457-21-135-13688-210.4324/9780203078303 (CKB)2550000000710887(EBL)1101428(OCoLC)823389785(SSID)ssj0000787126(PQKBManifestationID)12348075(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000787126(PQKBWorkID)10813513(PQKB)10832965(MiAaPQ)EBC1101428(Au-PeEL)EBL1101428(CaPaEBR)ebr10640567(CaONFJC)MIL420707(OCoLC)838125415(FINmELB)ELB132591(EXLCZ)99255000000071088720180706d2013 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrNegotiating political power in Turkey breaking up the party /edited by Elise Massicard and Nicole F. Departing from traditional macro-level analyses, the book offers a new sociological approach to the study of political parties, treating them as non-unitary entities composed of many different groups and individuals who both cooperate and compete with one another. The central proposition of the book is that parties must be studied as clusters of relationships in specific locales rather than as unitary 'black boxes.' This ground-up approach provides new insights into the internal workings of political parties; why parties gain and lose elections and other political resources; and the ways in which power is negotiated and exercised in Turkey and beyond. Chapters include studies of Islamic and Islamist parties from the 1970s to the present, ethnic Kurdish parties, center- and extreme right parties, and the far left, as well as independent candidates. The authors pay particular attention to relations - and the blurry boundaries-- between parties and civil society groups, religious associations, non-governmental organizations, ethnic and socio-economic groups, and state institutions, and to the variability of external and internal party politics in different geographies such as Adana, Mersin, and Diyarbakir"--Provided by publisher.Routledge Studies in Middle Eastern PoliticsPolitical partiesTurkeyPolitical partiesSocial aspectsTurkeyPolitical partiesTurkeyCommunicationsCommunication in politicsSocial aspectsTurkeyPolitical partiesManagementSocial aspectsTurkeyPolitical partiesPolitical partiesSocial aspectsPolitical partiesCommunications.Communication in politicsSocial aspectsPolitical partiesManagementSocial aspects324.2561POL000000SOC053000bisacshMassicard Elise688275Watts Nicole1874556FlBoTFGFlBoTFGBOOK9910955277903321Negotiating political power in Turkey4485182UNINA
