Contrary to the previous Canadian exchange rate literature, this paper finds that both energy and nonenergy commodity prices have an influence on the Canadian dollar, and some upward pressure on the exchange rate would therefore be expected. Model results suggest, however, that the impact on other tradable goods exports is limited.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2006/070Oil sands industryEconomic aspectsCanadaMonetary policyCanadaInvestments: EnergyimfExports and ImportsimfForeign ExchangeimfMacroeconomicsimfIndustries: EnergyimfEnergy: GeneralimfTrade: GeneralimfMacroeconomics: ProductionimfCommodity MarketsimfInvestment & securitiesimfInternational economicsimfCurrencyimfForeign exchangeimfPetroleum, oil & gas industriesimfOilimfExportsimfExchange ratesimfOil productionimfCommodity pricesimfPetroleum industry and tradeimfPricesimfCanadaimfOil sands industryEconomic aspectsMonetary policyInvestments: EnergyExports and ImportsForeign ExchangeMacroeconomicsIndustries: EnergyEnergy: GeneralTrade: GeneralMacroeconomics: ProductionCommodity MarketsInvestment & securitiesInternational economicsCurrencyForeign exchangePetroleum, oil & gas industriesOilExportsExchange ratesOil productionCommodity pricesPetroleum industry and tradePricesBayoumi Tamim122763Mühleisen Martin1464146International Monetary Fund.DcWaIMFBOOK9910788700103321Energy, the Exchange Rate, and the Economy3673709UNINA
