CONCLUSION""; ""References""This paper constructs a composite index of corporate governance quality, documents its evolution from 1994 through 2003 in selected emerging and developed economies, and assesses its impact on aggregate and corporate growth and productivity. Our investigation yields three main findings. First, corporate governance quality in most countries has overall improved, although to varying degrees and with a few notable exceptions. Second, the data exhibit cross-country convergence in corporate governance quality with countries that score poorly initially catching up with countries with high corporate governance scores. Third, the impact of improvements in corporate governance quality on traditional measures of real economic activity-GDP growth, productivity growth, and the ratio of investment to GDP- is positive, significant, and quantitatively relevant, and the growth effect is particularly pronounced for industries that are most dependent on external finance.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2006/293Corporate governanceCorporate governanceEconomic aspectsFinance: GeneralimfProduction and Operations ManagementimfCorporate GovernanceimfCorporate Finance and Governance: Government Policy and RegulationimfFinancial Markets and the MacroeconomyimfProductionimfCostimfCapital and Total Factor ProductivityimfCapacityimfGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data)imfCorporate governanceimfrole & responsibilities of boards & directorsimfFinanceimfMacroeconomicsimfTotal factor productivityimfFinancial sector developmentimfStock marketsimfMarket capitalizationimfFinancial services industryimfIndustrial productivityimfStock exchangesimfChina, People's Republic ofimfCorporate governance.Corporate governanceEconomic aspects.Finance: GeneralProduction and Operations ManagementCorporate GovernanceCorporate Finance and Governance: Government Policy and RegulationFinancial Markets and the MacroeconomyProductionCostCapital and Total Factor ProductivityCapacityGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data)Corporate governancerole & responsibilities of boards & directorsFinanceMacroeconomicsTotal factor productivityFinancial sector developmentStock marketsMarket capitalizationFinancial services industryIndustrial productivityStock exchangesUeda Kenichi1485191De Nicolo Gianni375199Laeven Luc1463965International Monetary Fund.Research Dept.DcWaIMFBOOK9910788695503321Corporate Governance Quality3823283UNINA03037nam 2200661 450 991080920110332120230817181001.01-5261-4274-01-5261-4272-410.7765/9781526142726(CKB)4100000008694945(MiAaPQ)EBC5824937(DE-B1597)659644(DE-B1597)9781526142726(EXLCZ)99410000000869494520190731d2019 uy 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierHabermas and European integration social and cultural modernity beyond the nation-state /Shivdeep GrewalManchester, Michigan :Manchester University Press,2019.1 online resource (153 pages)1-5261-4273-2 German philosopher Jürgen Habermas has written extensively on the European Union. This is the only in-depth account of his project. Published now in paperback to coincide with the celebration of his ninetieth birthday, a new preface considers Habermas's writings on the eurozone and refugee crises, populism and Brexit, and the presidency of Emmanuel Macron.Placing an emphasis on the conception of the EU that informs Habermas's political prescriptions, the book is divided into two main parts. The first considers the unfolding of 'social modernity' at the level of the EU. Among the subjects covered are Habermas's concept of juridification, the latter's affinities with integration theories such as neofunctionalism, and the application of Habermas's democratic theory to the EU. The second part addresses 'cultural modernity' in Europe - 'Europessimism' is argued to be a subset of the broader cultural pessimism that assailed the project of modernity in the late twentieth century, and with renewed intensity in the years since 9/11.Constitutional lawEuropean Union countriesEuropean cooperationEuropean federationLawEuropePhilosophyPOLITICAL SCIENCE / Comparative PoliticsbisacshEuropean Union countriesPolitics and governmentBrexit.Emmanuel Macron.European Union.Europessimism.Eurozone.Jürgen Habermas.democracy.juridification.modernity.neofunctionalism.populism.refugee crises.Constitutional lawEuropean cooperation.European federation.LawPhilosophy.POLITICAL SCIENCE / Comparative Politics.341.2422Grewal Shivdeep1596517MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910809201103321Habermas and European integration3917898UNINA
