CONCLUSIONS""; ""References""This paper explores and quantifies several aspects of the performance of currency unions using an augmented version of the gravity model and focusing on two samples, the world and Africa. Our empirical findings suggest that, in principle, membership in a currency union should benefit Africa as much as it does the rest of the world. In addition, we find evidence from both samples that the effect of currency unions on trade is large, almost a doubling; currency unions are associated with trade creation, increase price co-movements among members, and make trade more stable; and longer duration of currency union membership brings about more benefits, although with some diminishing returns.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2006/031CommerceEconometric modelsMonetary unionsEconometric modelsMonetary unionsAfricaEconometric modelsEconometricsimfExports and ImportsimfLaborimfMoney and Monetary PolicyimfFinancial Aspects of Economic IntegrationimfLabor-Management Relations, Trade Unions, and Collective Bargaining: GeneralimfTrade PolicyimfInternational Trade OrganizationsimfEconometric Modeling: GeneralimfMonetary SystemsimfStandardsimfRegimesimfGovernment and the Monetary SystemimfPayment SystemsimfInternational economicsimfTrade unionsimfEconometrics & economic statisticsimfMonetary economicsimfMonetary unionsimfLabor unionsimfPlurilateral tradeimfGravity modelsimfCurrenciesimfInternational tradeimfEconometric modelsimfMoneyimfSouth AfricaimfCommerceEconometric models.Monetary unionsEconometric models.Monetary unionsEconometric models.EconometricsExports and ImportsLaborMoney and Monetary PolicyFinancial Aspects of Economic IntegrationLabor-Management Relations, Trade Unions, and Collective Bargaining: GeneralTrade PolicyInternational Trade OrganizationsEconometric Modeling: GeneralMonetary SystemsStandardsRegimesGovernment and the Monetary SystemPayment SystemsInternational economicsTrade unionsEconometrics & economic statisticsMonetary economicsMonetary unionsLabor unionsPlurilateral tradeGravity modelsCurrenciesInternational tradeEconometric modelsMoneyHulej Michal1546588Tsangarides Charalambos1462110Ewenczyk Pierre125459International Monetary Fund.International Monetary Fund.African Dept.DcWaIMFBOOK9910788414903321Stylized Facts on Bilateral Trade and Currency Unions3802285UNINA
