Dollarization in LiberiaAttachment1. Estimating US Dollars in CirculationLiberia's experience with a dual currency regime, with the U.S. dollar enjoying legal tender status, dates to its founding as a sovereign country in 1847. Following the end of the most recent episode of civil war in late-2003, the new government has expressed interest in strengthening the role of the Liberian dollar. Liberia, however, is heavily dollarized, with the U.S. dollar estimated to account for about 90 percent of money supply. Cross-country experience suggests that dollarization does not preclude monetary policy from achieving its primary objective of price stability, and that successful and lasting dedollarization may be difficult to achieve.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2009/037MoneyLiberiaDollar, AmericanBanks and BankingimfMoney and Monetary PolicyimfIndustries: Financial ServicesimfMonetary PolicyimfMonetary SystemsimfStandardsimfRegimesimfGovernment and the Monetary SystemimfPayment SystemsimfBanksimfDepository InstitutionsimfMicro Finance InstitutionsimfMortgagesimfFinancial Institutions and Services: GeneralimfMonetary Policy, Central Banking, and the Supply of Money and Credit: GeneralimfMonetary economicsimfBankingimfCurrenciesimfDollarizationimfBank depositsimfFinancial sectorimfMonetary baseimfMoneyimfMonetary policyimfFinancial servicesimfEconomic sectorsimfBanks and bankingimfFinancial services industryimfMoney supplyimfLiberiaimfMoneyDollar, American.Banks and BankingMoney and Monetary PolicyIndustries: Financial ServicesMonetary PolicyMonetary SystemsStandardsRegimesGovernment and the Monetary SystemPayment SystemsBanksDepository InstitutionsMicro Finance InstitutionsMortgagesFinancial Institutions and Services: GeneralMonetary Policy, Central Banking, and the Supply of Money and Credit: GeneralMonetary economicsBankingCurrenciesDollarizationBank depositsFinancial sectorMonetary baseMoneyMonetary policyFinancial servicesEconomic sectorsBanks and bankingFinancial services industryMoney supplyMenkulasi Jeta1493453Erasmus Lodewyk1493454Leichter Jules1493455DcWaIMFBOOK9910788340303321Dedollarization in Liberia-Lessons From Cross-Country Experience3716454UNINA
