Many service members and veterans face serious challenges in readjusting to normal life after returning home. This initial book presents findings on the most critical challenges, and lays out the blueprint for the second phase of the study to determine how best to meet the needs of returning troops and their families. The statement of task for this study evolved out of discussions among the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and IOM. Specifically, it was determined that in phase 1, the IOM committee would identify preliminary findings regarding the physical and mental health and other readjustment needs for members and former members of the Armed Forces who were deployed to OEF or OIF and their families as a result of such deployment.Adaptation, Psychological - United StatesAfghan War, 2001-2021VeteransServices forUnited StatesIraq War, 2003-2011Services forVeteransUnited StatesFamilies of military personnelServices forUnited StatesVeteransMedical careUnited StatesVeteransMental health servicesUnited StatesMedical careNeeds assessmentUnited StatesSoldiersMental health servicesUnited StatesMilitary dependentsMedical careUnited StatesVeteransHealth ServicesAdaptation, PsychologicalAfghan Campaign 2001-Iraq War, 2003-2011Military PersonnelNeeds AssessmentUnited StatesAdaptation, Psychological - United States.Afghan War, 2001-2021VeteransServices forIraq War, 2003-2011Services forVeteransFamilies of military personnelServices forVeteransMedical careVeteransMental health servicesMedical careNeeds assessmentSoldiersMental health servicesMilitary dependentsMedical careVeterans.Health Services.Adaptation, Psychological.Afghan Campaign 2001-Iraq War, 2003-2011.Military Personnel.Needs Assessment.355.11Committee on the Initial Assessment of Readjustment Needs of Military Personnel Veterans, and Their Families1524406Populations, Board on the Health of Selected.Institute of Medicine (U.S.) Committee on the Initial Assessment of Readjustment Needs of Military Personnel, Veterans, and Their Families.National Academies Press (U.S.)AU-PeELAU-PeELAU-PeELBOOK9910784955503321Returning Home from Iraq and Afghanistan3765226UNINA
