Regrettably, Arabic data rarely feature in the formulation of theories and analytical tools in modern linguistics. This situation is unfavourable to both sides. The Arabist, once an outrider, has almost become a non-member of the mainstream linguistics community. Consequently, linguistics itself has been deprived of a wealth of data from one of the world's major languages. However, it is reassuring to witness advances being made to integrate into mainstream linguistics the visions and debates of specialists in Arabic. Building on this fruitful endeavour, this book presents thought-provoking, new articles, especially written for this collection by leading scholars from both sides. The authors discuss topics in historical, social and spatial dialectology focusing on Arabic data investigated within modern analytical frameworks.Studies in Semitic languages and linguistics ;53.Arabic languageDialectsSociolinguisticsArab countriesArabic languageDialects.Sociolinguistics492.77Al-Wer Enam1518736Jong Rudolf Erik de882004Holes Clive1948-165934MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910778565303321Arabic dialectology3756469UNINA03326oam 2200505 450 991067989800332120170523091618.0981-230-461-410.1355/9789812304612(OCoLC)406179986(MiFhGG)GVRL2QRZ(EXLCZ)99250000000000087220070927d2007 uy 0engurun|---uuuuatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAn APEC trade agenda? the political economy of a free trade area of the Asia-Pacific /edited by Charles E. In more recent times, the idea has found new support for two main reasons: as a plan B to the stumbling Doha Development Agenda (DDA) round of WTO negotiations; and as a solution to the noodle bowl of bilateral agreements in the region. This report assesses the political feasibility of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) proposal and looks at alternative modalities for achieving free trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific. The report includes trade policy perspectives from the three largest economies of the region: the United States, China and Japan, lessons from similar proposals such as the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), possible convergence among the many preferential trade agreements (PTAs) in the region, and alternative approaches to regional economic integration.Free tradeAsiaFree tradePacific AreaAsiaCommercial policyPacific AreaCommercial policyFree tradeFree trade382.71095Morrison Charles Edward1944-Pedrosa EduardoPacific Economic Cooperation Council,Institute of Southeast Asian Studies,APEC Business Advisory Council,MiFhGGMiFhGGBOOK9910679898003321An APEC Trade Agenda2559210UNINA
