Future highly digital sociotechnical systems should contrast with those stemming from technology-centered engineering that produces objects and machines with the immensely codified and rigid practices we know today. Most of the time, current technologies are designed and developed for normal situations, leaving users to manage abnormal and emergency situations themselves, sometimes under unforeseen, extreme and/or dangerous conditions. Putting humans at the center of the design of flexible sociotechnical systems means visualizing possible futures, modeling them, simulating them and leading them down the right paths. This book is for the engineering designers, who seek to better understand the roles of humans and organizations developing complex life-critical systems. It is also for those who train future designers who will have to take into account the well-being, safety, sustainability and efficiency of the actors of future sociotechnical systems. It is about an emergent discipline, human systems integration (HSI). The aim of the flexibility challenge is to put the artificial at the service of the natural, and not the other way around. The author, an aerospace engineering designer, has worked for 40 years in the field of human-centered design (HCD) of complex systems, discovering repeatedly that automation leads to rigidity, especially when things go wrong. It is urgent we had a new paradigm where flexibility is a major asset in human systems integration. HCD is seen here as the combination of practices and technologies to come.SpringerBriefs in Human-Computer Interaction,2520-1689User interfaces (Computer systems)Human-computer interactionComputers and civilizationSocial sciencesData processingUser Interfaces and Human Computer InteractionComputers and SocietyComputer Application in Social and Behavioral SciencesUser interfaces (Computer systems)Human-computer interaction.Computers and civilization.Social sciencesData processing.User Interfaces and Human Computer Interaction.Computers and Society.Computer Application in Social and Behavioral Sciences.004.019Boy Guy A.754970MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910485591103321Design for flexibility2810256UNINA04699nam 22006975 450 991074759880332120251008135050.09783031409639303140963910.1007/978-3-031-40963-9(MiAaPQ)EBC30774846(Au-PeEL)EBL30774846(CKB)28478160000041(OCoLC)1402167698(DE-He213)978-3-031-40963-9(EXLCZ)992847816000004120231006d2023 u| 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierStrides Towards Standard Methodologies in Aeronautical Archaeology /edited by Hunter W. It serves to highlight those practices and projects that take strides towards standard methodologies in aeronautical archaeology. This book involves the study of aircraft crash sites, airfields, battlefields, and buildings or structures related to aviation. High profile sites and topics in this book include Lake Mead’s B-29 Superfortress, Tuskegee Airmen in Michigan, and patterns of preservation in WWII aircraft and their importance. A relatively new field, aeronautical archaeology is the sub-field of archaeology that examines past human interaction with flight. The authors aim to create more awareness for aviation cultural heritage projects and the associated community of scholars, practitioners, and enthusiasts. This volume includes contributions from leading global scholars through varied scientific inquiries, summaries of site investigations, and conservation techniques of aeronautical heritage.Contributions To Global Historical ArchaeologyHistoryArchaeologyArchaeologyMethodologyUnderwater archaeologyHistory, ModernHistoryArchaeologyArchaeological MethodologyMaritime ArchaeologyModern HistoryHistory.Archaeology.ArchaeologyMethodology.Underwater archaeology.History, Modern.History.Archaeology.Archaeological Methodology.Maritime Archaeology.Modern History.629.1309Whitehead Hunter W1431855Lickliter-Mundon Megan1431856MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910747598803321Strides Towards Standard Methodologies in Aeronautical Archaeology3574694UNINA
