Boletín del Centro de Estudios Precolombinos de la Universidad de Varsovia, titulado "Arqueología de la Costa de Ancash", es una síntesis muy bien documentada de los aportes más recientes de la investigación arqueológica en la zona costera de los valles de Santa, Nepeña, Casma, Culebras y Huarmey, en la región Ancash. Esta edición no podría ser más oportuna. Desde los trabajos pioneros de Julio C. Tello, el valle bajo de Casma se convirtió en una de las regiones mejor estudiadas de la arqueología peruana. A partir de la década de 1980, cuando Shelia y Thomas Pozorski inician sus estudios de largo plazo en la zona, la arqueología de este valle y de áreas inmediatamente vecinas cobró un nuevo impulso. Pero fue en la última década cuando se produjo un verdadero despegue de la arqueología en toda la región costera de Ancash, con la aparición de nuevos proyectos de investigación de mediano y largo plazo, no sólo en los locos tradicionalesde investigación en Casma y Nepena, sino también en los valles de Santa, Culebras y Huarmey. Nuestra convocatoria para este volumen tuvo una respuesta extraordinaria de parte de la mayoría de los investigadores que trabajan en la costa de Ancash.
