Da deutsche Varietäten in jedem Fall Teil mehrsprachiger Repertoires sind, wird dabei besonders der Frage nachgegangen, ob und inwieweit kontaktinduzierter Sprachwandel stattgefunden hat oder derzeit stattfindet. Die im Band vertretenen Themen, Autoren und Institutionen spiegeln die Breite der Erforschung des Deutschen als Minderheitensprache in Italien wider. Bezüglich der thematischen Schwerpunktsetzungen sind sie gleichzeitig ein Abbild der Sprachwissenschaft in Italien: In je drei Beiträgen stehen phonetisch-phonologische und lexikalische Fragestellungen im Mittelpunkt, ein Beitrag behandelt die Morphologie, fünf Beiträge sind syntaktische Studien.
