The Aesthetic-Historical Imaginary: --Conclusion: The Morality of Holocaust Art --Notes --Bibliography --Index"Holocaust artworks intuitively must fulfill at least two criteria: artistic (lest they be merely historical documents) and historical (lest they distort the Holocaust or become merely artworks). The Sense of Semblance locates this problematic within philosophical aesthetics, as a version of the conflict between aesthetic autonomy and heteronomy, and argues that Adorno's dialectic of aesthetic semblance describes the normative demand that artworks maintain a dynamic tension between the two. The Sense of Semblance aims to move beyond familiar debates surrounding postmodernism by demonstrating the usefulness of contemporary theories of meaning and understanding, including those from the analytic tradition. Pickford shows how the causal theory of names, the philosophy of tacit knowledge, the analytic philosophy of quotation, Sartre's theory of the imaginary, the epistemology of testimony, and Walter Benjamin's dialectical image can help explicate how individual artworks fulfill artistic and historical desiderata. In close readings of Celan's poetry, Holocaust memorials in Berlin, the quotational artist Heimrad Backer, Claude Lanzmann's film Shoah, and Art Spiegelman's graphic novel Maus, Pickford offers interpretations that, in their precision, specificity, and clarity, inaugurate a dialogue between contemporary analytic philosophy and contemporary art. The Sense of Semblance is the first book to incorporate contemporary analytic philosophy in interpretations of art and architecture, literature, and film about the Holocaust"--Provided by publisher.Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945), and the artsAdorno.Bäcker.Celan.German/Austrian literature.Holocaust.Lanzmann.Spiegelman.aesthetics.film.graphic novel.memorials.Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945), and the arts.700/.458405318LIT004210PHI001000HIS043000bisacshPickford Henry W1141462MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910786195203321The sense of semblance3724554UNINA02855nam 2200637 450 991081264370332120210614063141.00-7391-8049-5(CKB)3710000000214120(EBL)1757682(OCoLC)886110372(SSID)ssj0001288878(PQKBManifestationID)11769957(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001288878(PQKBWorkID)11297108(PQKB)10889724(MiAaPQ)EBC1757682(Au-PeEL)EBL1757682(CaPaEBR)ebr10901680(CaONFJC)MIL633813(EXLCZ)99371000000021412020140814h20142014 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrFrantz Fanon, my brother doctor, playwright, revolutionary /Joby Fanon ; translated by Daniel NetheryLanham, Maryland :Lexington Books,2014.©20141 online resource (156 p.)Critical Africana Studies : African, African American, and Caribbean Interdisciplinary and Intersectional StudiesDescription based upon print version of record.0-7391-8048-7 Includes bibliographical references and index.Frantz Fanon, My Brother; Contents; Foreword; 1. These drugs will provide additional options for people with migraine put at risk of side effects by other medications or with unsatisfactory response to previous drugs. There is now a sufficient amount of literature published to interest a wide multidisciplinary readership (general physicians, general neurologists, clinical psychologists, neurologists in training, and medical students) facing every day this burdensome disorder in their clinical practice. The book aims therefore at offering an overview of these new drugs for both acute and prophylactic treatments of migraine, covering studies on clinical evidence, tolerability, and the different stages of clinical development.Headache,2197-6538Internal medicineNeurologyEmergency medicinePain medicinePharmacologyInternal MedicineNeurologyEmergency MedicinePain MedicinePharmacologyMigranyathubLlibres electrònicsthubInternal medicine.Neurology.Emergency medicine.Pain medicine.Pharmacology.Internal Medicine.Neurology.Emergency Medicine.Pain Medicine.Pharmacology.Migranya615.1616.84912061Martelletti PaoloEdvinsson LarsMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910568262803321Novel synthetic drugs in migraine2966507UNINA
