Justice, Justice Thou Shalt Pursue is the result of a period of collaboration between Ginsburg and Amanda L. Tyler, a Berkeley Law professor and former Ginsburg law clerk. During her visit to Berkeley, Justice Ginsburg told her life story in conversation with Tyler. In this collection, the two bring together that conversation and other materials-many previously unpublished-that share details from Justice Ginsburg's family life and long career. These include notable briefs and oral arguments, some of Ginsburg's last speeches, and her favorite opinions that she wrote as a Supreme Court justice (many in dissent), along with the statements that she read from the bench in those important cases. Each document was chosen by Ginsburg and Tyler to tell the story of the litigation strategy and optimistic vision that were at the heart of Ginsburg's unwavering commitment to the achievement of "a more perfect Union." In a decades-long career, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an advocate and jurist for gender equality and for ensuring that the United States Constitution leaves no person behind. Her work transformed not just the American legal landscape, but American society more generally. Ginsburg labored tirelessly to promote a Constitution that is ever more inclusive and that allows every individual to achieve their full human potential. As revealed in these pages, in the area of gender rights, Ginsburg dismantled long-entrenched systems of discrimination based on outdated stereotypes by showing how such laws hold back both genders. And as also shown in the materials brought together here, Justice Ginsburg had a special ability to appreciate how the decisions of the high court impact the lived experiences of everyday Americans. The passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in September 2020 as this book was heading into production was met with a public outpouring of grief. With her death, the country lost a hero and national treasure whose incredible life and legacy made the United States a more just society and one in which "We the People," for whom the Constitution is written, includes everyone"--Provided by publisher.Law in the public square ;2.JudgesUnited StatesJudgesUnited StatesBiographyJudgesUnited StatesWomen judgesUnited StatesBiographyBIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY / Lawyers & JudgesbisacshAmerican democracy.Supreme Court.a more perfect union.advocate.champion of justice.commitment.constitutional framework.courage.feminism.feminist icon.fiery dissents.force for change.gender discrimination.gender equality.incisive jurist.liberal faith.litigation strategy.mother.notorious.on the basis of sex.optimistic vision.rbg.reform.relentless litigator.resilience.tenacity.tireless.voting rights.wife.women in the workplace.JudgesJudgesJudgesWomen judgesBIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY / Lawyers & Judges.347.732634Ginsburg Ruth Bader286046Tyler Amanda L.MiAaPQMiAaPQUtOrBLWBOOK9910554225703321Justice, justice thou shalt pursue2818811UNINA03790nam 2200457z- 450 991055785890332120230221134303.0(CKB)5400000000048223(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/80201(EXLCZ)99540000000004822320202204d2021 |y 0slvurmn|---annantxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierO igri in delu antropologija zgodnjega otroštva = Playing at work, working at play : toward an anthropology of childhood /Barbara Turk NiskačLjubljanaZRC SAZU, Založba ZRC20211 electronic resource (192 p.)Ethnologica – Dissertationes7961-05-0515-5 961-05-0518-X The monograph introduces the concept of work, which is inherent in human being as is play. This concept of work can be understood simultaneously as a powerful means of socialisation and as a disciplining instrument. The author problematizes the dichotomy between play and work as a construct that emerged in the specific historical and geographical context of early industrialization. She introduces the educational value attributed to work and presents how this understanding of work has historically changed through different political and socio-economic circumstances. Drawing on ethnographic studies and theorising from the fields of psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, and social anthropology, the author analyses why and how preschool children participate in everyday work at home and in kindergarten. The author draws connections between children's participation in work and children's sociality and intersubjectivity as core human capacities as social beings. Preschool children are included as research participants along with adults, and by presenting their perspectives, this volume demonstrates the complexity of social life from an early age. Social & cultural anthropology, ethnographybicsscanthropologychildhoodplaysocializationworkantropologijadeloigraotroštvosocializacijaSocial & cultural anthropology, ethnographyTurk Niskač Barbara1302187BOOK9910557858903321O igri in delu3026224UNINA
