However, in many cases, this progress has been hampered by our dependency on critical materials or other resources that are often processed at high environmental burdens. Yet, many studies have shown that environmental and energy issues are strictly interconnected and require a comprehensive understanding of resource management strategies and their implications. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is among the most inclusive analytical techniques to analyze sustainability benefits and trade-offs within complex systems and, in this Special Issue, it is applied to assess the mutual influences of environmental and energy dimensions. The selection of original articles, reviews, and case studies addressed covers some of the main driving applications for energy requirements and greenhouse gas emissions, including power generation, bioenergy, biorefinery, building, and transportation. An insightful perspective on the current topics and technologies, and emerging research needs, is provided. Alone or in combination with integrative methodologies, LCA can be of pivotal importance and constitute the scientific foundation on which a full system understanding can be reached.Life Cycle Assessment Research & information: generalbicsscactivated carbonbio-based polymersbiodegradable plasticsbioenergybiofuel policycarbon dioxide captureCEDCriticalitydecarbonizationEco-indicator 99electricityembodied carbonembodied energyenergy metricsenergy scenarioenergy securityenergy transitionenvironmental impactenvironmental impactsenvironmental sustainabilityEROIexergyforecastgasificationgeographic information system (GIS)GHG mitigationgreenhouse gasgrid mixground-source heat pumpsharmonizationharvesting residuesin-cityindirect land use changeIPCClandfillLCAlife cycle assessmentlife cycle assessment (LCA)Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)life-cycle embodied performancemanufacturing processMaterial Flow Analysis (MFA)material structuremetropolitan arean/anet energyPCMperovskite solar cellPHAsphase change materialsphase-change material (PCM)photovoltaicphotovoltaicsphotovoltaics panelspyrolysisrecyclingreviewspace conditioningSpeicher LCAstorageStorage LCA Toolsupplysustainabilityswine manure managementthermal energy storagetraction batteriestransport energy intensityvolatile fatty acidswaste managementwell to wheelResearch & information: generalPassarini Fabrizioedt1322919Ciacci LucaedtPassarini FabrizioothCiacci LucaothBOOK9910557535503321Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Environmental and Energy Systems3035264UNINA02038oas 2200649 a 450 991014477900332120250918213016.0(OCoLC)1083314378(CONSER)cn2006704550(CKB)991042733667038(EXLCZ)9999104273366703820060821a20029999 ua aengurcn|||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAnnual report /Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of CanadaOttawa Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada[2002]-Title from title screen (viewed on Aug. 21, 2006).Distributed by the Government of Canada Depository Services Program.0225-2384 Social sciencesResearchCanadaPeriodicalsHumanitiesResearchCanadaPeriodicalsSciences socialesRechercheCanadaPériodiquesSciences humainesRechercheCanadaPériodiquesHumanitiesResearchfastSocial sciencesResearchfastCanadafasthttps://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJkMHVW4rfVXPrhVP4VwG3PeriodicalsfastSocial sciencesResearchHumanitiesResearchSciences socialesRechercheSciences humainesRechercheHumanitiesResearchSocial sciencesResearch352.7/45097105cci1icclacccoll11lacccoll14lacccoll29lacccoll108laccNLCNLCOCLCOOCLCFOCLCQOCLCOOCLCQOCLCOOCLCLNLCOCLCLJOURNAL9910144779003321Annual report162222UNINA
