The varied contributions to this interdisciplinary Special Issue highlight assumptions about the human perception of, attitude toward, and responsibility for the animals that are read and written about, thus demonstrating that just as "the animal" does not exist, neither does "the human". In their zoopoetic focus, the analyses are aware that animal narratology ultimately always contains an approximation of an animal perspective in human terms and terminology, yet they make clear that what matters is how the animal is approximated and that there is an effort to approach and encounter the non-human in the first place. Many of the analyses come to the conclusion that literary animals give readers the opportunity to expand their own points of view both on themselves and others by adopting another's perspective to the degree that such an endeavor is possible. Ultimately, the contributions call for a recognition of the many spaces, moments, and modes in which human lives are entangled with those of animals-one of which is located within the creative bounds of storytelling.Animals & societybicsscBiology, life sciencesbicsscResearch & information: generalbicssc'Inventing a Horse'Morenga''Spermaceti'Achillesadaptation studiesAesopic fablesAfrican historyagencyallegoryanimalanimal agencyanimal autobiographyAnimal Farmanimal narrationanimal narratologyanimal narratoranimal narratorsanimal poetryanimal studiesAnimal Studiesanimalityanimalsantagonistic fablesanthropocentrismanthropological machineanthropologyanthropomorphismArchilochusautobiographyBollywoodBulgakovCartesian dualismcatastropheCervantescharacterizationChicken RuncinemaCixouscolonialismcomicscommunityconflictcontextualist narratologycultural and literary animal studiescultural ontologiescynicismdecolonizationDerridaDiogenes of Sinopedirect speechdiscourse analysisdogsdystopiaEarly Modern Ageeartheco-criticismeco-humanitieseco-philosophyecologyecopsychologyEl coloquio de los perrosempathyemulationentanglementenvironmental crisisenvironmental philosophyequine autozoographyEric Linklaterexilefablefiction-nonfiction distinctionfictional autobiographyfilmfilm studiesfilmic representation of animalsfoxframing and footingFranz KafkagenreGeorge OrwellGerard GenetteGreek fableGryllusHans SahlHesiodHindi cinemaHomerhorse-sciencehumanhuman-animal studieshumanismIKimitationindigenous wisdom traditionsIndustrial Farm Animal Productioninoperativityinstinctinter-species comprehensionintermedialityintertextualityintradiegetic narrationintuitionKafka studieslanguagelife writingliterary representationliterary theoryLucianlyric poetrymanuscriptsMarie Darrieussecqmaterial ecocriticismMaurice Merleau-Pontymeta-autobiographymetamorphosismimesisMoby-DickmoleMontaignemore-than-human geographymulti-perspective narrationmultispecies ethnographymusicmythn/anarrativenarrative representationnarrative voicenarratologynatural historynon-humannon-human focalizernon-human narratorsnon-verbal communicationNovela del casamiento engañosoNovelas ejemplaresparodypigPincher Martinplay theoryplotPlutarchpoetics of knowledgepolitenesspostcolonial German literatureposthumanismPythagorasrelationalityrepetitionrhetoricRichard AdamsroosterRussian literaturescience fictionself-narrativesSiglo de Orosinging micesound effectsspacespeaking animalsspeaking-forspeciestalking animal storiestalking dogsTEKThe Plague DogsThe Wind on the MoontimeTolstoytransformationtrauma theoryTruismesunreliabilityUwe TimmWerner HerzogWhite Godworld literatureworldviewsXanthuszoologyzoopoeticsAnimals & societyBiology, life sciencesResearch & information: generalJacobs Joelaedt1311316Jacobs JoelaothBOOK9910557108103321Animal Narratology3030236UNINA04573nam 22010093a 450 991034685140332120250203235431.09783038429371303842937610.3390/books978-3-03842-937-1(CKB)4920000000095153(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/53774(ScCtBLL)741bf598-4587-493f-b011-9061e8d1aeb6(OCoLC)1126114722(oapen)doab53774(EXLCZ)99492000000009515320250203i20192019 uu engurmn|---annantxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierModern Grinding Technology and SystemsBrian RoweMDPI - Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute2019Basel, Switzerland :MDPI,2019.1 electronic resource (148 p.)9783038429388 3038429384 This specialist edition features key innovations in the science and engineering of new grinding processes, abrasives, tools, machines, and systems for a range of important industrial applications. Topics written by invited, internationally recognized authors review the advances and present results of research over a range of well-known grinding processes. A significant introductory review chapter explores innovations to achieve high productivity and very high precision in grinding. The reviewed applications range from grinding systems for very large lenses and reflectors, through to medium size grinding machine processes, and down to grinding very small components used in MEMS . Early research chapters explore the influence of grinding wheel topography on surface integrity and wheel wear. A novel chapter on abrasive processes also addresses the finishing of parts produced by additive manufacturing through mass finishing. Materials to be ground range from conventional engineering steels to aerospace materials, ceramics, and composites. The research findings highlight important new results for avoiding material sub-surface damage. The papers compiled in this book include references to many source publications which will be found invaluable for further research, such as new features introduced into control systems to improve process efficiency. The papers also reflect significant improvements and research findings relating to many aspects of grinding processes, including machines, materials, abrasives, wheel preparation, coolants, lubricants, and fluid delivery. Finally, a definitive chapter summarizes the optimal settings for high precision and the achievement of centerless grinding stability.History of engineering and technologybicsscwheelssafe operationprecisionlubricationsurface roughnessmicrogrindinghigh-performance dry grindingmicro-grindingbrittle hard materialsglassmicropencil grinding toolstopographyglass–ceramiccutting edgecoolant deliveryqualityfusionmaterialsmetal additive manufacturingprofile gear grindinggrinding fluidcoolantcontact conditionsmetal cutting fluidgrindingself-sharpeningmass finishingprocess optimizationcenterless grindinggrinding fluid nozzlelaserproductivitysystemssubsurface damagesNC-form grindingsodium dodecyl sulfategrinding wheelsprocessesjet breakupcontrolremoval rateswear modellingprecision grindingoptics manufacturingsensorsbondingmicrostructuresmachinesthermo-mechanical stress collectiveHistory of engineering and technologyRowe Brian1287793ScCtBLLScCtBLLBOOK9910346851403321Modern Grinding Technology and Systems3020396UNINA
