Dies wird umgangssprachlich als "Chefarztbehandlung" bezeichnet, da häufig Chefärzte für die Behandlung ausgewählt werden. Chefärzte gelten nämlich gemeinhin als besonders erfahren und kompetent. Obwohl mit dem Patienten eine Chefarztbehandlung vertraglich vereinbart ist, sind es in vielen Fällen nicht die Chefärzte, die die einzelnen Behandlungsleistungen erbringen. Manchmal sind sie gar nicht an der Behandlung beteiligt und trotzdem werden alle Leistungen als Chefarztbehandlung abgerechnet.
