This study constitutes the first modern book-length, in-depth critical analysis of Ovid, Metamorphoses 13.623-14.582. In this unit Ovid, by challenging openly the artistry of his great predecessor Vergil, redraws the parameters associated with the definition and appreciation of epic poetry. The book first introduces the methodological complexity of the Ovidian embrace strategy, and, subsequently, it reads the 'little Aeneid' closely, discussing the network of allusions to its prototype. It assesses the structure and thematics of each episode in the cluster, and traces the recurrence of prominent motifs throughout the Metamorphoses. Not least, it explores poetics, arguing that Ovid's selective incorporation of the Aeneid reproduces the spirit and fundamental ideas of the model in an idiosyncratic sophisticated manner.Latin literatureElectronic books.Latin literature.871Papaioannou Sophia623028MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910464825003321Epic succession and dissension1094000UNINA11424nam 2200565 450 99649985440331620231110221020.03-031-20316-X(MiAaPQ)EBC7146403(Au-PeEL)EBL7146403(CKB)25461610000041(PPN)266350046(EXLCZ)992546161000004120230408d2022 uy 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAdvanced research in technologies, information, innovation and sustainability second international conference, ARTIIS 2022, Santiago de Compostela, Spain, September 12-15, 2022, revised selected papers. While the US and Canada belong to the world’s largest per capita emitters of greenhouse gases, the Arctic north of the continent as well as the Deep South are already affected by a changing climate. In Cultural Dynamics of Climate Change and the Environment in Northern America academics from various fields such as anthropology, art history, educational studies, cultural studies, environmental science, history, political science, and sociology explore society–nature interactions in – culturally as well as ecologically – one of the most diverse regions of the world.
