Yet during the time when the short story was at its most popular-the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries-even the greatest writers followed strict generic conventions that were far from subtle. This expanded and updated translation of Florence Goyet's influential La Nouvelle, 1870-1925: Description d'un genre à son apogée (Paris, 1993) is the only study to focus exclusively on this classic period across different continents. Ranging through French, English, Italian, Russian and Japanese writing-particularly the stories of Guy de Maupassant, Henry James, Giovanni Verga, Anton Chekhov and Akutagàwa Ryünosuke-Goyet shows that these authors were able tocreate brilliant and successful short stories using the very simple 'tools of brevity' of that period. ln this challenging and far-reaching study, Goyet looks at classic short stories in the context in which they were read at the time: cheap newspapers and higher end periodicills. She demonstrates that, despite the apparent intention of these stories to question bourgeois ideals, they mostly affirmed the prejudices of their readers. ln doing so, her book forces us to re-think our preconceptions about this 'forgotten' genre.LiteratureHistory and criticismTheory, etcLiteraturePhilosophyLiterary formHistoryliterary theorywritten literatureshort storyLiteratureHistory and criticismTheory, etc.LiteraturePhilosophy.Literary formHistory.801.95Goyet Florence601260MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910132226203321The classic short story, 1870-19252239478UNINA03349nam 2200913z- 450 991055711410332120210501(CKB)5400000000040905(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/69120(oapen)doab69120(EXLCZ)99540000000004090520202105d2020 |y 0engurmn|---annantxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierSelected Papers from the 16th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB16)Basel, SwitzerlandMDPI - Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute20201 online resource (150 p.)3-03943-070-X 3-03943-071-8 In 2018, the 16th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB16) was held in Beijing, China. Herein, eight distinguished papers were selected to be published as Special Issues of Actuators. These papers are suggested to provide new insights for the development of magnetic bearings, with emphasis on thermal behavior analysis, electrodynamic thrust bearings analysis, viscoelastic damping design, magnetic spring, condition monitoring, self-bearing motors performance.Selected Papers from the 16th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings History of engineering and technologybicssc5-degrees of freedom active controlactive magnetic bearingActive Magnetic Bearingactive magnetic bearingsAMBaxial gapcompliant actuationcomponent benchmarkingCondition Monitoringcost reductiondampingdesign refinementdouble stator structureelectrodynamicelectrodynamic bearingenergy efficiencyfatigue testingfiber reinforced plasticInternet of ThingsIoTkinetic energy storagemagnetic springmodelingoptimal designparallel elastic actuators (PEA)passive levitationpassive magnetic bearingpediatricperformance criteriaradial three-phase bearingrotor dynamicsself-bearing motorself-sensingseries elastic actuators (SEA)space vector modulationstabilitystiffnessthermal behaviorthrust bearingventricular assist deviceviscoelastic materialHistory of engineering and technologyZhou Jinedt1294142Wu HuachunedtUeno SatoshiedtSun FengedtZhou JinothWu HuachunothUeno SatoshiothSun FengothBOOK9910557114103321Selected Papers from the 16th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB16)3022923UNINA
