Car de Lao Tseu à Deleuze, en passant par Lucrèce, Spinoza et Nietzsche, nombreuses sont les affinités qui relient Giono à ces penseurs du hasard et de la joie tragique. Qu’il nous soit permis, au gré de notre fantaisie mais aussi d’une nécessité interne au sujet, de les inviter ici, à travers siècles et continents, au grand Banquet des esprits libres. Cet essai propose donc un éclairage différent sur ce très grand écrivain qui a l’audace de se doubler d’un penseur profond, échappant ainsi, une fois de plus, aux catégories dans lesquelles il était convenu de le classer. Nul esprit de système dans tout cela, nul dogmatisme non plus : l’écriture souveraine de Giono se joue avec désinvolture de la plupart de nos tentatives de dire vrai sur elle. Nous essayons simplement de souligner la puissance quasi thérapeutique de l’éthique gionienne, faite d’un savoir gourmand du réel dans son entier (noirceur et lumières confondues), et d’une jouissance communicative d’être soi, qui est la "générosité" selon Giono.
