Brower --NOTES --Bibliography --INDEXIn this first comprehensive authorized biography of David Brower, a dynamic leader in the environmental movement over the last half of the twentieth century, Tom Turner explores Brower's impact on the movement from its beginnings until his death in 2000. Frequently compared to John Muir, David Brower was the first executive director of the Sierra Club, founded Friends of the Earth, and helped secure passage of the Wilderness Act, among other key achievements. Tapping his passion for wilderness and for the mountains he scaled in his youth, he was a central figure in the creation of the Point Reyes National Seashore and of the North Cascades and Redwood national parks. In addition, Brower worked tirelessly in successful efforts to keep dams from being built in Dinosaur National Monument and the Grand Canyon. Tom Turner began working with David Brower in 1968 and remained close to him until Brower's death. As an insider, Turner creates an intimate portrait of Brower the man and the decisive role he played in the development of the environmental movement. Culling material from Brower's diaries, notebooks, articles, books, and published interviews, and conducting his own interviews with many of Brower's admirers, opponents, and colleagues, Turner brings to life one of the movement's most controversial and complex figures.EnvironmentalistsUnited StatesBiographyConservationistsUnited StatesBiographyElectronic books.EnvironmentalistsConservationists508.092Turner Tom1942-1050054McKibben BillMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910460554403321David Brower2479530UNINA05647nam 22006015 450 991048485220332120230725075801.03-030-21927-510.1007/978-3-030-21927-7(CKB)4100000008280424(MiAaPQ)EBC5780134(DE-He213)978-3-030-21927-7(PPN)243771037(EXLCZ)99410000000828042420190524d2019 u| 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAdvanced Control Techniques in Complex Engineering Systems: Theory and Applications Dedicated to Professor Vsevolod M. This book is dedicated to Professor Vsevolod Mykhailovych Kuntsevich, an Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and President of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Association on Automatic Control, in recognition of his pioneering works, his great scientific and scholarly achievements, and his years of service to many scientific and professional communities, notably those involved in automation, cybernetics, control, management and, more specifically, the fundamentals and applications of tools and techniques for dealing with uncertain information, robustness, non-linearity, extremal systems, discrete control systems, adaptive control systems and others. Covering essential theories, methods and new challenges in control systems design, the book is not only a timely reference guide but also a source of new ideas and inspirations for graduate students and researchers alike. Its 15 chapters are grouped into four sections: (a) fundamental theoretical issues in complex engineering systems, (b) artificial intelligence and soft computing for control and decision-making systems, (c) advanced control techniques for industrial and collaborative automation, and (d) modern applications for management and information processing in complex systems. All chapters are intended to provide an easy-to-follow introduction to the topics addressed, including the most relevant references. At the same time, they reflect various aspects of the latest research work being conducted around the world and, therefore, provide information on the state of the art. .Studies in Systems, Decision and Control,2198-4190 ;203Control engineeringDynamicsNonlinear theoriesEngineering mathematicsControl and Systems TheoryApplied Dynamical SystemsEngineering MathematicsControl engineering.Dynamics.Nonlinear theories.Engineering mathematics.Control and Systems Theory.Applied Dynamical Systems.Engineering Mathematics.629.8629.8312Kondratenko Yuriy Pedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtChikrii Arkadii Aedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtGubarev Vyacheslav Fedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtKacprzyk Januszedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtBOOK9910484852203321Advanced Control Techniques in Complex Engineering Systems: Theory and Applications2851461UNINA
