Focusing on probability profiles and systemic potentials, the study encompasses three stages and combines the strengths of two research methods – the corpus-based approach and text-based analysis – to examine the conjunctions under the theoretical framework of systemic functional linguistics and rhetorical structure theory. Starting with an overview of seventeen conjunctions across two corpora in terms of overall frequency, positional distribution and distribution of semantic categories, the book then offers a more detailed discussion of three individual conjunctions, highlighting the interconnections between 1) syntactic positions and co-occurrence patterns and 2) semantic relations encoded by these conjunctions. Lastly, it presents a case study of one full-length text taken from the learner corpus, applying rhetorical structure theory to provide new insights into the relevance of adversative and concessive relations to text structure. This comprehensive, in-depth analysis is both diagnostic and pedagogically informative.LinguisticsComparative linguisticsLanguage and languagesStudy and teachingLinguistics.Comparative linguistics.Language and languagesStudy and teaching.410Zhang Yan1086917MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910484761303321Adversative and concessive conjunctions in EFL writing2845768UNINA03221nam 22006374a 450 991077764390332120230617000120.00-19-770840-41-280-53030-897866105303040-19-802907-11-4237-8476-6(CKB)1000000000463113(EBL)272509(OCoLC)476011102(SSID)ssj0000079154(PQKBManifestationID)11972489(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000079154(PQKBWorkID)10066903(PQKB)10759582(Au-PeEL)EBL272509(CaPaEBR)ebr10266639(CaONFJC)MIL53030(OCoLC)70215854(MiAaPQ)EBC272509(EXLCZ)99100000000046311320020801d2003 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrPrinciples and practice of neuropathology[electronic resource] /edited by James S.
