Conclusion: Engaging With the Other. This book examines queer characters in popular American television, demonstrating how entertainment can educate audiences about LGBT identities and social issues like homophobia and transphobia. Through case studies of musical soap operas (Glee and Empire), reality shows (RuPaul's Drag Race, The Prancing Elites Project and I Am Cait) and "quality" dramas (Looking, Transparent and Sense8), it argues that entertainment elements such as music, humour, storytelling and melodrama function as pedagogical tools, inviting viewers to empathise with and understand queer characters. Each chapter focuses on a particular programme, looking at what it teaches-its representation of queerness-and how it teaches this-its pedagogy. Situating the programmes in their broader historical context, this study also shows how these televisual texts exemplify a specific moment in American television.Palgrave Entertainment Industries,2947-647XMotion picturesTelevision broadcastingQueer theoryEthnologyAmericaCultureFilm and Television StudiesQueer StudiesAmerican CultureMotion pictures.Television broadcasting.Queer theory.EthnologyCulture.Film and Television Studies.Queer Studies.American Culture.791.45653Parsemain Ava Laureauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1225638BOOK9910484180203321The Pedagogy of Queer TV2845637UNINA03605nam 22008053 450 991076583810332120241107093631.097866104636959781135988487113598848X97811359884941135988498978128046369312804636949780203968598020396859X10.4324/9780203968598 (CKB)1000000000358847(EBL)261327(OCoLC)475976776(SSID)ssj0000269124(PQKBManifestationID)11217178(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000269124(PQKBWorkID)10236094(PQKB)11427316(MiAaPQ)EBC261327(OCoLC)70887258(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/26080(MiAaPQ)EBC7244954(Au-PeEL)EBL7244954(OCoLC)824549285(ODN)ODN0004070723(ScCtBLL)d91a2d81-cd24-426c-9090-c021e092b5ca(OCoLC)1135854570(oapen)doab26080(EXLCZ)99100000000035884720231110h20172006 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrWarriors and politicians U.S. civil-military relations under stress /Charles A. Conclusions: US Civil-Military Relations Under StressNotes; Bibliography; IndexWith historical case studies ranging from the Revolutionary War to the war in Iraq, this new book shows how and why the US military is caught between two civilian masters - the President and Congress - in responding to the challenges of warfighting, rearmament, and transformation. Charles Stevenson skilfully shows how, although the United States has never faced the danger of a military coup, the relations between civilian leaders and the military have not always been easy. Presidents have contended with military leaders who were reluctant to carry out their orders.
