The revolutionary challenge -- part II. Professional patriots -- part III. The new anticommunism."Loyalty and Liberty offers the first comprehensive account of the politics of countersubversion in the United States prior to the McCarthy era. A sweeping study that surveys the loyalty politics of World War I, the antiradicalism of the 1920s and antifascism of the 1930s, and the emerging McCarthyite politics of World War II, this book shows how countersubversive thinking evolved alongside and contributed to the development of the modern federal state. Alex Goodall explores how antiradical crusading was hampered in the 1920s both by constitutional, financial, and political constraints on antisubversion that followed from excesses of political repression during and after World War I and by scandals that plagued the movement and led many to view it as either deluded or malevolent. The 1930s saw a major restructuring within the antiradical community, and New Deal activism encouraged a conservative backlash that began to see the looming threat of communism as lying in Washington, rather than on the margins of American society. Meanwhile, the executive branch created countersubversive machinery capable for the first time of prosecuting an effective war on radical dissent. By the end of World War II, new alliances on the left and right had largely consolidated into the form they would keep during the Cold War: a new anticommunist movement worked to restrain the supposedly dictatorial ambitions of the Roosevelt administration, while New Deal liberals split between supporters of the Popular Front, civil liberties activists, and embryonic Cold Warriors as they struggled to respond to the issues of communist espionage in Washington and communist influence in politics more broadly"--Provided by publisher.Anti-communist movementsUnited StatesHistory20th centuryRadicalismUnited StatesHistory20th centuryPolitical persecutionUnited StatesHistory20th centuryUnited StatesPolitics and government1919-1933United StatesPolitics and government1933-1945Electronic books.Anti-communist movementsHistoryRadicalismHistoryPolitical persecutionHistory320.973/0904Goodall Alex(Alexis Vere)991390MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910464665503321Loyalty and liberty2268691UNINA03497nam 22006495 450 991085538320332120250807153014.09783031559488303155948710.1007/978-3-031-55948-8(CKB)31801407500041(MiAaPQ)EBC31310598(Au-PeEL)EBL31310598(MiAaPQ)EBC31319634(Au-PeEL)EBL31319634(DE-He213)978-3-031-55948-8(EXLCZ)993180140750004120240429d2024 u| 0engur|||||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAnalyzing Education, Sustainability, and Innovation Multidisciplinary Research Perspectives /edited by Azman Ismail, Fatin Nur Zulkipli, Rahimah Mahat, Mohd Amran Mohd Daril, Andreas Öchsner1st ed. 2024.Cham :Springer Nature Switzerland :Imprint: Springer,2024.1 online resource (121 pages)SpringerBriefs in Applied Sciences and Technology,2191-53189783031559501 3031559509 9783031559471 3031559479 Includes bibliographical references.Competencies Framework for Flipped Learning in Writing Instruction -- The Role of Thinking Using Problem-Based Learning in 21st Century Teaching -- The Intention Toward Green Electrical Products -- Investigation of Burnout due to Online Learning During Covid-19 Pandemic at Technical and Vocational Education and Training University Using Maslach Burnout Inventory -- The Trend of Reverse Logistics in Circular Economy: A Guide of Bibliometric Analysis for Future Studies -- Pandemic COVID-19: Impact Towards Import and Export Activities -- Auditors of Halal Foreign Certification Body Using Malaysian Halal Standards in Japan: Challenges and Suggestions -- Adoption of Technology - Organization- Environment Framework in the Digitization Decision of the Inventory Management. This book describes a diverse array of studies unravelling the intricate interplay of education, sustainability, and organizational dynamics.
