Bibliography --Subject IndexWhat is the significance of sustainable resource management for the functioning of Mediterranean island societies? How do human-environment relations reflect in a multi-ethnic religious landscape? This book poses these questions in the context of the Ottoman, British, and modern history of Cyprus. It explores the socio-ecological dimension of the Cyprus conflict and considers the role of local environmental practices for historical coexistence and modern division. The book synthesizes theoretical approaches from the research on 'religion and ecology' with the anthropology of Cyprus, with the goal to develop and establish an ecological perspective on coexistence and conflict in the Mediterranean. Religion is seen as the place where local representations of nature and traditions of resource management are generated and maintained. The work takes a comparative look at the impact of Eastern Orthodox and Islamic institutions on the island's landscape, as well as the religious and economic practices of the rural peasant communities. The findings are then spelled out in the context of current discourses on religion, environmental ethics, and social justice.Religion and society ;57.NatureReligious aspectsEcotheologyCyprusCyprusReligionCyprusHistoryElectronic books.NatureReligious aspects.Ecotheology956.93Dietzel Irene1979-1056892MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910464265403321The ecology of coexistence and conflict in Cyprus2491583UNINA03872oam 2200781I 450 991046267170332120200520144314.00-203-10828-01-283-84169-X1-136-26541-410.4324/9780203108284 (CKB)2670000000298832(EBL)1074983(OCoLC)821174017(SSID)ssj0000831395(PQKBManifestationID)11470843(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000831395(PQKBWorkID)10881691(PQKB)11403706(MiAaPQ)EBC1074983(Au-PeEL)EBL1074983(CaPaEBR)ebr10630871(CaONFJC)MIL415419(OCoLC)895717438(EXLCZ)99267000000029883220180706d2013 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrMedievalisms making the past in the present /Tison Pugh and Angela Jane WeislLondon :Routledge,2013.1 online resource (184 p.)Description based upon print version of record.0-415-61726-X 0-415-61727-8 Includes bibliographical references and index.Cover; Medievalisms; Title Page; Copyright Page; Table of Contents; Acknowledgements; 1 Medievalisms: The Magic of the Middle Ages; 2 A Case Study of Dante: Naked Icons of Medievalism; 3 Literary Medievalisms: Inventing Inspirations; 4 ""Medieval"" Literature for Children and Young Adults: Fantasies of Innocence; 5 King Arthur's and Robin Hood's Adventures in Medievalism: Mythic Masculinities (and Magical Femininities); 6 Movie Medievalisms: Five (or Six) Ways of Looking at an Anachronism; 7 Medievalisms in Music and the Arts: Longing for Transcendence8 Experiential Medievalisms: Reliving the Always Modern Middle Ages9 Political Medievalisms: The Darkness of the Dark Ages; Bibliography; Index"From Harry Potter and Robin Hood, through to video games and jousting-themed restaurants, medieval culture continues to surround us and has retained a strong influence on literature and culture throughout the ages.
