Stakeholders in disputes about illnesses or conditions disagree over their fundamental causes as well as how they should be treated and prevented. This thought-provoking book crosses disciplinary boundaries by engaging with both public health policy and social science, asserting that science, activism, and policy are not separate issues and showing how the contribution of environmental factors in disease is often overlooked.Consumer OrganizationsConsumer OrganizationsEnvironmental healthEnvironmental HealthEnvironmental healthEnvironmental IllnessEnvironmental IllnessSocial ChangeSocial ChangeSocial medicineSocial medicineEnvironmental healthSocial medicineHypersensitivityOrganizationsHealth OccupationsSociologyDisorders of Environmental OriginSocioeconomic FactorsPopulation CharacteristicsSocial SciencesDiseasesImmune System DiseasesDisciplines and OccupationsHealth Care Economics and OrganizationsHealth CareAnthropology, Education, Sociology and Social PhenomenaSocial ChangeEnvironmental IllnessConsumer OrganizationsEnvironmental HealthPublic HealthHILCCHealth & Biological SciencesHILCCEnvironmental HealthHILCCElectronic books.Consumer Organizations.Consumer Organizations.Environmental health.Environmental Health.Environmental health.Environmental Illness.Environmental Illness.Social Change.Social Change.Social medicine.Social medicine.Environmental healthSocial medicineHypersensitivityOrganizationsHealth OccupationsSociologyDisorders of Environmental OriginSocioeconomic FactorsPopulation CharacteristicsSocial SciencesDiseasesImmune System DiseasesDisciplines and OccupationsHealth Care Economics and OrganizationsHealth CareAnthropology, Education, Sociology and Social PhenomenaSocial ChangeEnvironmental IllnessConsumer OrganizationsEnvironmental HealthPublic HealthHealth & Biological SciencesEnvironmental Health362.1Brown Phil, edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtMorello-Frosch Rachel, edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtZavestoski Stephen, edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtDE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910461470103321Contested Illnesses2462192UNINA03544nam 22005895 450 991015475380332120250625202007.09781400881505140088150110.1515/9781400881505(CKB)3710000000620067(MiAaPQ)EBC4738516(DE-B1597)467932(OCoLC)979633635(DE-B1597)9781400881505(Perlego)736152(EXLCZ)99371000000062006720190708d2016 fg engurcnu||||||||rdacontentrdamediardacarrierFoundational Essays on Topological Manifolds, Smoothings, and Triangulations. The most primitive of these--the TOP manifolds--remained rather mysterious until 1968, when Kirby discovered his now famous torus unfurling device. A period of rapid progress with TOP manifolds ensued, including, in 1969, Siebenmann's refutation of the Hauptvermutung and the Triangulation Conjecture. Here is the first connected account of Kirby's and Siebenmann's basic research in this area. The five sections of this book are introduced by three articles by the authors that initially appeared between 1968 and 1970. Appendices provide a full discussion of the classification of homotopy tori, including Casson's unpublished work and a consideration of periodicity in topological surgery.Annals of mathematics studies ;Number 88.Manifolds (Mathematics)Piecewise linear topologyTriangulating manifoldsManifolds (Mathematics)Piecewise linear topology.Triangulating manifolds.514/.7SI 830rvkKirby Robion C.441130Siebenmann Laurence C(Laurence Carl),1939-DE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910154753803321Foundational Essays on Topological Manifolds, Smoothings, and Triangulations.
