Drawing upon three years of ethnographic research in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, Sandra Bamford describes a world in which physiological reproduction is not perceived to ground human kinship or human beings' relationship to the organic world. Bamford also exposes the ways in which Western ideas about relatedness do depend on a notion of physiological reproduction. Her innovative analysis includes a discussion of the advent of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), the mapping of the human genome, cloning, the commodification of biodiversity, and the manufacture and sale of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).Hamtai (Papua New Guinean people)EthnobiologyHamtai (Papua New Guinean people)AgricultureHamtai (Papua New Guinean people)PsychologyHuman bodySocial aspectsPapua New GuineaGulf ProvinceIndigenous peoplesEcologyPapua New GuineaGulf ProvinceEthnobiologyPapua New GuineaGulf ProvinceBiotechnologyGenetic engineeringGulf Province (Papua New Guinea)Social life and customsElectronic books.Hamtai (Papua New Guinean people)Ethnobiology.Hamtai (Papua New Guinean people)Agriculture.Hamtai (Papua New Guinean people)Psychology.Human bodySocial aspectsIndigenous peoplesEcologyEthnobiologyBiotechnology.Genetic engineering.305.89/912Bamford Sandra C.1962-1038800MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910457570303321Biology unmoored2473023UNINA00972nam a22002651i 450099100269333970753620040304085521.0040624s1983 uik|||||||||||||||||eng 0715617478b12963422-39ule_instARCHE-092110ExLDip.to Beni CulturaliitaA.t.i.
