This book turns to Argentina in the second half of the nineteenth century. Having hosted Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle, Argentina had a claim to being the cradle of Darwinism. Such claims, together with other cultural currents placed the appropriation or rejection of Darwinism at the center of the struggle to articulate the national identity of the emerging Argentine Republic. Two chapters of original historiography are followed by eight chapters of new English translations of primary sources from the Argentine reception of Darwinism, including texts (by Domingo Sarmiento, Eduardo Holmberg, and others) well known to students of Latin American letters, but never before published in English.History of science and medicine library.Scientific and learned cultures and their institutions ;v. 5.History of science and medicine library ;v. 27.Evolution (Biology)ArgentinaHistory19th centuryEvolution (Biology)Social aspectsArgentinaHistory19th centuryScientistsArgentinaBiographyNaturalistsArgentinaBiographyScienceArgentinaHistory19th centuryArgentinaIntellectual life19th centuryElectronic books.Evolution (Biology)HistoryEvolution (Biology)Social aspectsHistoryScientistsNaturalistsScienceHistory576.8/20982Levine Alex1966-883190Novoa Adriana1963-883191Novoa Adriana1963-883191MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910457548203321Darwinistas1972848UNINA04076nam 2200661Ia 450 991046249110332120200520144314.090-474-2696-710.1163/9789047426967(CKB)2670000000212638(EBL)1158519(OCoLC)833765978(SSID)ssj0000906477(PQKBManifestationID)11484660(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000906477(PQKBWorkID)10932256(PQKB)11336758(MiAaPQ)EBC1158519(OCoLC)693091299(nllekb)BRILL9789047426967(PPN)170414043(Au-PeEL)EBL1158519(CaPaEBR)ebr10684518(CaONFJC)MIL471019(OCoLC)817580479(EXLCZ)99267000000021263820130419d2009 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrThe China society yearbook[electronic resource] Volume 3Analysis of China's development (2008) /chief editors, Ru Xin, Lu Xueyi, Li PeilinLeiden ;Boston Brill20091 online resource (289 p.)The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences yearbooks : Society,1872-7239Includes index.90-04-17350-1 Preliminary Material -- The Development of a Social Infrastructure that Prioritizes an Improvement of the People’s Livelihood—2007–2008 General Report: Analysis and Forecast of China’s Social Development /Li Peilin and Chen Guangjin -- Income and Consumption Levels of Urban and Rural Residents in China /Lü Qingzhe -- Employment in 2007: Innovative System Reform /Mo Rong -- Report on Social Security Development in China in 2007 /Wang Fayun and Wang Xiaoming -- Advancements in the National Health Insurance Program /Gu Xin -- The Security of Chinese Society in 2007 /Song Erdong and Sun Huilin -- Prevention and Punishment of Corruption in 2007 /Wen Shengtang and Li Yuanze -- Investigation of the Quality of Life in China in 2007 /Yuan Yue and Zhang Hui -- The Beijing Public’s Perceptions of Food Safety Risks /Zhao Yandong , Zhang Wenxia and Ma Ying -- 2007–2008 Distribution of Income in China New Movements, New Tendencies, and New Approaches /Yang Yiyong and Gu Yan -- An Analysis of Public Opinion Regarding the Chinese Internet in 2007 /Zhu Huaxin , Hu Jiangchun and Sun Wentao -- 2007: A “Legislation Year for Labor Security” /Qiao Jian -- The Private Business Sector in China: Political Participation in the Development Process /Zhang Houyi -- Primary Security Risks Asociated with the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games /Li Peilin and Wang Junxiu -- Index. The 2008 volume of The China Society Yearbook , the third volume in the annual China Society Blue Book series to be translated into English, contains important statistics and analysis from Chinese scholars on a wide array of social issues in China.
