Hierarchy in a Globalized World -- IndexPolitical science has had trouble generating models that unify the study of the formation and consolidation of various types of states and empires. The business-administration literature, however, has long experience in observing organizations. According to a dominant model in this field, business firms generally take one of two forms: unitary (U) or multidivisional (M). The U-form organizes its various elements along the lines of administrative functions, whereas the M-form governs its periphery according to geography and territory. In Logics of Hierarchy, Alexander Cooley applies this model to political hierarchies across different cultures, geographical settings, and historical eras to explain a variety of seemingly disparate processes: state formation, imperial governance, and territorial occupation. Cooley illustrates the power of this formal distinction with detailed accounts of the experiences of Central Asian republics in the Soviet and post-Soviet eras, and compares them to developments in the former Yugoslavia, the governance of modern European empires, Korea during and after Japanese occupation, and the recent U.S. occupation of Iraq.In applying this model, Logics of Hierarchy reveals the varying organizational ability of powerful states to promote institutional transformation in their political peripheries and the consequences of these formations in determining pathways of postimperial extrication and state-building. Its focus on the common organizational problems of hierarchical polities challenges much of the received wisdom about imperialism and postimperialism.International relationsComparative organizationComparative governmentImperialismMilitary occupationElectronic books.International relations.Comparative organization.Comparative government.Imperialism.Military occupation.302.3/5Cooley Alexander1972-608742MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910457292603321Logics of hierarchy2327711UNINA03667nam 22006615 450 991043813790332120260210154904.09783034805193303480519510.1007/978-3-0348-0519-3(CKB)2670000000393921(SSID)ssj0000935809(PQKBManifestationID)11536146(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000935809(PQKBWorkID)10956317(PQKB)10632668(DE-He213)978-3-0348-0519-3(MiAaPQ)EBC3093117(PPN)170489256(EXLCZ)99267000000039392120130628d2013 u| 0engurnn#008mamaatxtccrIntroduction to Quantitative Methods for Financial Markets /by Hansjoerg Albrecher, Andreas Binder, Volkmar Lautscham, Philipp Mayer1st ed. 2013.Basel :Springer Basel :Imprint: Birkhäuser,2013.1 online resource (IX, 191 p. 48 illus., 10 illus. in color.)Compact Textbooks in Mathematics,2296-455XBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph9783034805186 3034805187 I Interest Rates -- II Financial Products -- III The No-Arbitrage Principle -- IV European and American Options -- The Binomial Option Pricing Model -- VI The Black-Scholes Model -- VII The Black-Scholes Formula -- VIII Stock-Price Models -- IX Interest Rate Models and the Valuation of Interest Rate Derivatives -- X Numerical Tools -- XI Simulation Methods -- XII Calibrating Models – Inverse Problems -- XIII Case Studies: Exotic Derivatives -- XIV Portfolio-Optimization -- XV Introduction to Credit Risk Models.Swaps, futures, options, structured instruments - a wide range of derivative products is traded in today's financial markets. Analyzing, pricing and managing such products often requires fairly sophisticated quantitative tools and methods. This book serves as an introduction to financial mathematics with special emphasis on aspects relevant in practice. In addition to numerous illustrative examples, algorithmic implementations are demonstrated using "Mathematica" and the software package "UnRisk" (available for both students and teachers). The content is organized in 15 chapters that can be treated as independent modules. In particular, the exposition is tailored for classroom use in a Bachelor or Master program course, as well as for practitioners who wish to further strengthen their quantitative background.Compact Textbooks in Mathematics,2296-455XGame theoryEconometricsSocial sciencesMathematicsGame TheoryQuantitative EconomicsMathematics in Business, Economics and FinanceGame theory.Econometrics.Social sciencesMathematics.Game Theory.Quantitative Economics.Mathematics in Business, Economics and Finance.519Albrecher Hansjörgauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut611748Binder Andreas1964-authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autLautscham Volkmarauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autMayer Philippauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autBOOK9910438137903321Introduction to Quantitative Methods for Financial Markets4473233UNINA
