Paul Durrenberger and Karaleah Reichart.Presenting ethnographic data and analysis drawn from eight case studies from diverse industries in the United States and abroad, the contributors to The Anthropology of Labor Unions provide a variety of perspectives on this paradox, including discussions of approaches to and findings on the histories, cultures, and practices of organized labor. They also address substantive issues such as race, class, gender, age, generation, ethnicity, health and safety concerns, corporate co-optation of unions, and the cultural context of union-management relationships." "The first to bring together anthropological case studies of labor unions, The Anthropology of Labor Unions will appeal to cultural anthropologists, social scientists, sociologists, and those interested in labor studies and labor movements.Labor unionsHistoryLabor unionsPolitical activityHistoryLabor unionsUnited StatesHistoryElectronic books.Labor unionsHistory.Labor unionsPolitical activityHistory.Labor unionsHistory.331.880973Durrenberger E. The term textitsoft emphasizes that no boundaries between particles are defined and every particle possesses a support consisting of a set of adjacent particles. The polynomial interpolation/approximation method is utilized for the evaluation of spatial derivatives using the information carried by particles in supports. The system of equations consisting of spatial derivatives is solved using an iterative nonlinear solver and the computation of the Jacobian matrix is parallelized. The simulations of laboratory tests have been carried out to show the applications and limitations of the current version of SPARC. In addition to the simulations, laboratory (zig-zag) model tests using fine sand were carried out, in which the cyclic tilt of a retaining wall induces a peculiar motion in the backfill (sand), with closed trajectories (eddies).Advances in geotechnical engineering and tunneling ;21.Geotechnical engineeringGranular materialsGeotechnical engineering.Granular materials.624.151Chen Jianxun623461MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910824748503321Development of soft particle code (SPARC)3996623UNINA
