Economic Variables -- 7 Motor Vehicle Safety Design -- 8 Highway Safety Design -- 9 Post-Accident Injury Care -- Conclusion -- NOTES Traffic accidents are responsible for the greatest number of deaths each year for many age groups. At present, authorities rely heavily on policing and prosecutions to control accidents. The authors of this work examine the effectiveness of these and other techniques, and suggest alternatives that may provide better results. They particularly favour an epidemilogical approach that takes driver conduct as a given and looks for other ways to control the frequency and severity of accidents. They examine the use of rewards to encourage good driving and the use of licensing to control the exposure of high-risk drivers. The deterrent effect of civil liability and the question of no-fault insurance are also considered, as are various methods used to control drinking and driving. The authors conclude by asking for greater evaluation of the interventions used. Traffic safety research, they argue, has barely begun to confront the central policy issue: how can society get the greatest payoff from the marginal dollar spent to prevent accidents?Traffic safetyTraffic regulationsElectronic books.Traffic safety.Traffic regulations.629.28Friedland Martin1040298Trebilcock MichaelRoach KentMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910456551003321Regulating traffic safety2463041UNINA03260nam 2200625Ia 450 991078552960332120200520144314.01-283-55091-1978661386336290-04-21661-810.1163/9789004216617(CKB)2670000000236149(EBL)999444(OCoLC)809775232(SSID)ssj0000704255(PQKBManifestationID)11422431(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000704255(PQKBWorkID)10704547(PQKB)11086529(MiAaPQ)EBC999444(nllekb)BRILL9789004216617(Au-PeEL)EBL999444(CaPaEBR)ebr10590551(CaONFJC)MIL386336(PPN)170427773(EXLCZ)99267000000023614920120227d2012 uy 0engur|n|||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierEvliyā Çelebī in Medina[electronic resource] the relevant sections of the Seyāhatnāme /edited with commentary and introduction by Nurettin Gemici ; translation of the Ottoman Turkish text by Robert DankoffLeiden ;Boston Brill20121 online resource (x, 292 pages) illustrations, map, facsimiliesEvliya Çelebi's book of travels ;v. 690-04-21135-7 Includes bibliographical references and index.Preliminary Material /Nurettin Gemici -- Introduction /Nurettin Gemici -- Map /Nurettin Gemici -- Text and Translation /Nurettin Gemici -- Bibliography /Nurettin Gemici -- Index of Personal Names and Names of Tribes and Peoples /Nurettin Gemici -- Index of Geographical Names /Nurettin Gemici -- Index of Book Titles /Nurettin Gemici -- Facsimiles of the Manuscript /Nurettin Gemici.Evliyā Çelebī, the famous Ottoman traveler of the seventeenth century, visited many countries under the sovereignity of the Ottoman Empire in Europe, Asia and Africa, including the Mecca and Medina. This book offers a critical edition of the section from Evliyā's Travels about Medina. It includes first-hand information on the administrative, historical, cultural, traditional and etymological structure of the city, and on everyday life in Medina during the seventeenth century. Evliyā Çelebī provides the readers with valuable information not only on the city itself, but also on its environs. This book offers a transliteration of the relevant passages on the basis of several Ottoman manuscripts, as well as an English translation made by Robert Dankoff.Evliyā Çelebi's Book of Travels6.Travelers' writings, TurkishMedina (Saudi Arabia)Description and travelTravelers' writings, Turkish.915.38Evliya Çelebi1611?-1682?1020651Gemici Nurettin1523925Dankoff Robert635023MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910785529603321Evliyā Çelebī in Medina3764300UNINA
